Happy Mother’s Day ♥️ Things I learned from watching my mom get ready for work when I was a kid: Style your hair with a good roller set, put your face on, add more blush, don’t forget perfume & take it with you in case you need to refresh, & always always always wear earrings. She taught me that fashion is as much about confidence as it is about flair, each step a ritual in glam, a little camp, & a lot of attitude.

Fever Dream…like roots pushing through cracked pavement while the city coughs in its sleep. I haven’t felt much like performing for the algorithm lately. Life has been louder than the internet with dental recoveries, an unexpected death, a lingering cold…all while the world smolders in the background. So, instead of “building engagement,” I made this reworking of an older piece. Three women growing out of a sickly little planet like tangled vines or unfinished prophecies. Witches, mourners, guardians, ghosts? Maybe all four…I don’t fully understand it yet but it resonates… 🖤

In 2018, I was hired to illustrate Luxury in Death, a song from Imperial Triumphant’s album Vile Luxury, as part of a compendium project where each song was interpreted by a different artist. At the time, I was brand new to digital illustration, still teaching myself Procreate, and saying yes to something I wasn’t entirely sure I knew how to do yet.

The challenge was… the song has no lyrics.
Just sound. Texture. Tension.

So I listened. Over and over. I let the music tell me a story. I wrote that story out, created thumbnails, and slowly built a visual narrative based entirely on what I heard and felt. It’s my interpretation of the song, shaped by instinct, symbolism, and the need I’ve always had to find the story inside the chaos. The only real direction I was given was Art Deco. Everything else was trust.

It was the first time I had to invent a process on the fly. In doing so I discovered one I still use today, especially when I’m working on commissioned pieces. Listen deeply. Let meaning rise. Build from there.

This past December, I finally saw Imperial Triumphant perform live in New York City at Jazz from Hell Festival. My husband has been the drummer in this band for over a decade and tours constantly, but NYC shows are rare, and it felt surreal to stand there watching a band whose music once pushed me to stretch, risk, and grow as an artist. It was an incredible show, and I couldn’t be more proud of my husband, he’s always making incredible music with great bands and I’m not just “the drummer’s wife”, I’m also a fan 🤩🖤

These three pieces are from that original series (I made 12 pieces in total), lightly reworked years later. Same bones. More clarity.

Just sharing, just because. ✍🏼

Reviving an old piece for a new season. This year cracked me open in every direction, beautiful and brutal and unforgettable, and it brought me back to music and to my voice. Alchemizing it all through art, story, and sound.

Inktober Day 31: Award ✨
An ode to one of my favorite childhood memories — A Christmas Story. Growing up in Indiana, this movie felt like home. I decided to re-ink Bob’s “major award” (a leg lamp that glowed with equal parts pride and absurdity) that I drew a few years ago.

Perfect for Flashback Friday, Halloween night nostalgia, and for the moment we all step from spooky season into the soft glow of Christmas lights.

But even as the world shifts to tinsel and cheer, there’s always a part of me that stays in the Halloween spirit…a little haunted at heart, forever drawn to the glow in the dark.

Inktober Day 30: Vacant
The skyline hums like a broken prayer, the moon watching what’s left of us unravel. I’ve had this recurring nightmare where the city is emptied of breath, its towers echoing with the sound of endings. When everything goes quiet, the only thing left to haunt you is yourself.

Inktober Day 29: Lesson
I was six when I won my first pet at the school carnival. I adored Ethel the goldfish and was certain I was ready for such responsibility.
Having seen people feed bread to birds, I did the same for her.
She floated by morning. 🫧
That’s how I learned that love without knowledge can be fatal… especially to fish.
