TLDR: old things are my jam

Embracing my desire to collect and create has been such a journey. But as always for me having a strong connection to why I create keeps me going.

Honestly… It’s waaay more challenging than I thought it would be. Initially I thought I could keep this light and simply create pretty wall candy (essentially). But, looking back I’m laughing because I am a very introspective, deep person, of course what comes thru in my art has a similar energy. There are days I’m like WTF am I doing?! And there are days I am really proud of myself for doing this.

Leaving this note here for myself later. 💌✨

Latest piece: Fougère de Barbizon (Fern of Barbizon)

Frame and photo from around 1900. This was a time when there was limited access to cameras and photography. I like to think this picture was made on a special occasion, like a vacation or a celebration. The frame has intricate details and the papers have textures you cannot find in any store. When I was opening the frame, I came across the mat paper pattern and wanted to be sure it was shown in the final piece.

On my trip, I started collecting little pressed florals and tucking them into my book. Not much thought or plan for them. When I began to see what this piece wanted to say, the florals made so much sense. They were from the same place, and the organic nature of them felt adjacent to the portrait of the woman.

I love giving antique items a new life through the lens of art. I think of it as paying respect to the cycle of life. How we are not our things, but how the things around us tell a story of who we are, what we loved, and what inspires us.

Why I can’t stop thinking about

A hotel and artists’ residence in Barbizon, France. When I came across this hotel during my stay in Paris, I knew I had to go. Only about an hour away, I had a one night stay here that I still think about, months later.

Dreamed up by the team at and guided by artistic director Sarah Valente .a.r.a.h.v.a.l.e.n.t.e the premise is simple: invite artists into a place, ask them to live with it, walk its forests, listen to its stories, and create work in response.

The result isn’t a hotel decorated with art.
It’s a hotel transformed into a living work of art.

More than 20 artists contributed custom pieces that weave together into a magical experience.

I came home with an antique photograph from Barbizon that I’ve since reimagined into a collage.

But it wasn’t JUST the artwork that stayed with me.

What stayed with me was the reminder that creativity isn’t always about making something new. Sometimes it’s about listening. Listening to a place. Listening to collaborators. Listening to the experiences we carry with us. How is what we hear shaping the work we create? It’s these details of the process that remind me why I do what I do. ✨

Tête Fleurie 🌼 Flowered Head

This frame + photograph came home with me from Saint-Ouen Flea in Paris. Guessing it’s from the late 1800s or early 1900s based on her Victorian-era dress. The detail I love most: hand-painted gold applied to the reverse side of the glass.

Reimagined with a tiny chrysanthemum I plucked on the trip.

Now available in the shop.

CASE STUDY: Sound as Color

✨ Brand Refresh ✨

As Sound as Color evolved from naturally dyed mindfulness products into custom pieces and hands-on workshops, it was time for the brand to evolve alongside it.

Together, we refined the visual identity to better reflect this next chapter. Pulling inspiration from the tactile beauty of her natural dye practice.

I’m back from a month of solo travel in Paris and I’ve been telling everyone I’m HIGH. There’s truly no other way to describe it.

I still have so much to unpack literally and mentally, but I’m trying to be gentle with myself and let it flow as it flows. These thoughts keep resonating and bring back the magic of the adventure to me so I wanted to share them with you.

If you engage with these prompts I’d love to hear how it goes.

If you own a creative business, you know first hand, there’s not an exact science to getting inspired. And inspiration is certainly an elusive force that none of us quite know how to harness forever. (If you’ve figured that one out, please DM me.)

HOWEVER!! one thing that works to keep my creative tank full is incorporating a little sprinkle from the greats everyday. The authors of these books feel like my guides at times. They can give me a little lift on the stressiest and messiest of days, and a giant surge of energy on the best and brightest of days.

What are you reading or doing to keep your creative tank full these days?

It is Earth Day. Yesterday, I watched “CBS Sunday Morning” and was introduced to , a photographer who documents the effects of climate change. His words and work, inspired by the urgency of this issue, are truly moving.

How easy it is to feel powerless, like a small cog in a giant machine of systemic problems. I believe that if each of us does our part, we can make a difference—and we must try. He expresses it best with his perspective in these quotes. I too believe that the “angels of our better natures” are still alive. Thank you for your mind, eyes, and heart—for paying attention and sharing the truth with us through your images and wise words.
