Tech Tamer Service Call 🤠

Customer reported: • Printer wouldn't print • We**am wasn't working

Actual fixes: • Repaired Windows printer configuration and set the printer as default • Opened the we**am privacy shutter

Technology can be frustrating, especially when a tiny setting causes a big headache.

Sometimes the fix takes an hour. Sometimes it takes one little plastic slider switch. 😅

Tech tip from The Tech Tamer 🤠

If a website says:

"Your password is incorrect"
..don't keep typing the same password or they'll lock you out

Computers don't respond to confidence, only accuracy.

Double check:
• Caps Lock
• Num Lock (ignores number keys)
• Spelling
• That ! or $ you added to the end last time you reset it

The keyboard ain't impressed by your determination I'm sorry to say...😅

Before ya call tech support...

Take a screenshot of the error message..typically the power button and volume down at the same time.

You'd be amazed how many problems get solved faster when we know what the darn thing actually said before it disappeared.

"My computer did a weird thing" is a mystery.

A screenshot is a clue they can work with..

Before ya buy a brand new printer because the old one "quit working"...

Check if it's actually plugged in 😅

I'm not kidding.

I've seen:
• power strips get switched off
• plugs get kicked loose
• Ethernet ports not 'clicked' in all the way
• GFCI outlets trip
• surge protectors fail

Technology can be complicated.

Electricity being missing is usually a simpler problem.

Technology’s supposed to make life easier…but sometimes it feels more like trying to babysit 14 tiny robots with attitude problems 😄

One of the biggest things I help folks with around Muscatine is simply getting all their devices talking to each other properly again:

If somebody calls ya claiming:
• your computer has a virus
• your Amazon account got hacked
• you've won some sort of prize or lawsuit payment
• or the government’s after your iTunes gift cards…

Hang up the phone, or delete the text.

Real companies don’t demand payment in Target gift cards outta the blue. 🤨

Tech tip from The Tech Tamer 🤠

If your phone says:
“Storage Full”

DO NOT start panic deleting family photos 😭

Apps can usually be downloaded again easy-peasy, uninstall those first.

And if ya delete any photos by accident, most phones have a “Trash” or “Recently Deleted” folder where they hang around awhile before being permanently removed.

That trash can though? Once THAT gets emptied…its like shakin an Etch-a-sketch 😅
