Weak point two of five: the accounts that still don't have multi-factor authentication on them.

Not most accounts. Every account. The gap is almost never your main system — it's the old vendor portal, the shared mailbox, the admin login someone set up before there was a policy, the account belonging to the person who finds it inconvenient.

Someone holding a working password doesn't need to defeat anything if one door still opens without a second step.

Multi-factor coverage across every account is one of the 30 points in our free assessment. It's an hour and it costs nothing: qualit.com/free-network-assessment

It's 4:17 on a Friday. An employee gets an email that looks like it's from the owner: can you send me the updated banking information before you leave?

Right name. Familiar tone. Everyone's trying to finish the week. The easiest thing in the world is to just reply.

Your security tools stop a great deal before anyone sees it. They cannot make that particular decision. And "be careful" isn't a plan — it puts the whole weight of a high-stakes call on the person least equipped to make it at 4:17 on a Friday.

What works is unglamorous: everyone knows who to contact, how to verify a request, and that flagging something is never the wrong move. That last part is set by leadership. If people get blamed for clicking, they learn to stay quiet, and quiet is what turns a manageable incident into a bad one.

The email asking you to change where a payment goes will look completely normal. That's the entire point of it.

Right sender name, right signature, right tone, sometimes a real thread it's been slotted into. Nothing about it feels like an attack, which is why reading carefully is not a defence.

The rule that works isn't "be suspicious." It's mechanical: any request that moves money or changes bank details gets verified on a different channel. You call the number you already had. Not the one in the email.

If your team doesn't have that rule written down, it's a short conversation and a good one to have this month: qualit.com/discoverycall

Honest question to start the week: how long did you wait on your last IT ticket?

Count from when you sent it, not from when someone finally called back. And count the hours your team sat idle, not just the minutes the fix took.

Most people are surprised by the number once they actually add it up. It's rarely the repair that costs you — it's the waiting on either side of it.

Ours is a 30-minute guarantee on every ticket, not just the ones we agree are urgent. Ten minutes on the phone tells you how that works: qualit.com/discoverycall

Cybersecurity gaps rarely come from a missing product. They come from believing you've already got it handled.

Six we hear constantly, each one followed by what's actually true. We're too small to be a target. Attackers pick on opportunity, not profile. Our people would spot a phishing email. The typo-ridden ones are gone. MFA protects us. It's a tool, not a shield, and prompt bombing works precisely because people approve things to make them stop. We have backups. Having them isn't the same as being able to restore them. It's IT's job. IT can't control every click. We'd know what to do. Most teams find out on the Tuesday it happens that nobody ever answered the basic questions.

Every one of those is comfortable to believe. That's exactly what makes it useful to somebody else.

Most businesses know they need a disaster recovery plan. Far fewer have one that's current and tested. That's usually not a motivation problem — it's a blank page problem.

People are much better at improving something than starting from nothing. Hand a team a rough draft and they'll immediately tell you what's missing and what's unrealistic. Leave them staring at an empty document and it moves to next week, every week.

That's the honest place AI fits: turning scattered notes into a first draft, building a response checklist, surfacing the dependency questions nobody thought to ask, translating a technical backup report into something a leadership team can decide on.

What it can't do is test whether your backups actually restore, or confirm your recovery timeline survives contact with a real Tuesday. That still takes people.

Five practical uses, and where the line sits, on the blog: https://www.qualit.com/2026/09/01/5-ways-salt-lake-city-businesses-can-use-ai-for-disaster-preparedness-planning/

Big shoutout to our Technician of the Month, Mike! Loved by many, he keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Your hard work doesn’t just fix problems, it prevents them.

We appreciate you! 👏

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, so here's the unglamorous truth to start it with.

The incidents that take businesses down are almost never sophisticated. A password reused across two accounts. A laptop three updates behind. A login for someone who left last spring. An email that looked close enough to a real one.

There's no exotic defense for any of that. There's just doing the ordinary things consistently, which is harder than it sounds and cheaper than the alternative.

Start by finding out which of your credentials are already circulating. The scan is free and takes half an hour: qualit.com/free-dark-web-scan

We'll be posting one fixable weak point a week through October.
