Position: Disruption Assessment and Software Testing Intern
Under a US government contract, we have developed a toolkit which will cause disruptions to a test network and the intern for this position will responsible for executing these disruptions and assessing operator recoveries. The intern will be tasked with learning how to stand up a real-world enterprise network; creating, testing, documenting, and training operators on recovery actions; executing and assessing the disruptions using our toolkit; and providing guidance to operators during tests.
General Qualifications: Applicants must be US citizens and be eligible for Top Secret security clearances. Applicants must be able to produce clean, organized code, must be willing to solve significant challenges with minimal guidance, and must be enthusiastic about working within a small team. We are looking for intelligent, hard-working, quick learners who we can mentor and bring in as part of the team.
Specific Qualifications: Applicants should have experience with enterprise IT systems (domains, Windows Server, RHEL, network infrastructure, etc.) and/or an advanced home lab. Applicants should be comfortable with shell scripting and common system commands. Experience with object-oriented programming and training coworkers is preferred but not required.
Experience: We are looking to hire applicants who have graduated or will graduate soon with a degree in Information Technology or a similar field. Applicants who have a Computer Science degree and an IT background will also be considered.
After The Internship: Upon successful completion of the internship, ideally the intern will join us as a full-time engineer, transition to development on our automated testbed, improve our internal testing processes, and improve our internal IT systems.
About Us: Vigilant Cyber Systems is a small defense contracting firm based in Mt. Airy, NC. We have supported a variety of Department of Defense programs in the cyber arena since our inception in 2010, providing software development, cyber testing, cyber-physical system pe*******on testing, and consulting services.

Location: All internships will take place in Mt. Airy, NC at the VCS Headquarters. We will provide housing in Mt. Airy at no cost for the duration of the internship. In previous years, we have rented houses for interns to share and applicants should expect similar accommodations.
Timeline: To accommodate varying school schedules, our internships typically run from late May until the middle of August with some flexibility on both the start and stop dates.
Hiring Process: Applications, interviews, and hiring will be considered in a rolling fashion on a first-come, first-served basis. We will consider applicants for positions for which they are best suited. Preference will be given to those who are most likely to join us as full-time engineers after graduation (or after successful completion of the internship).
