Did you know? Reviews from years ago can still shape first impressions — even after a business has changed hands, improved service, or resolved the issue entirely.

Outdated feedback doesn't always reflect the present.

If you're applying for jobs and you're worried about what employers will find when they Google you — here's the practical approach.

First: know what's there. Search your name in incognito mode. Check the first 3 pages. What you see is what they see.

Second: address what you can address quickly. Update your LinkedIn. Create a professional website or bio page. Clean up any public social media content you wouldn't want an employer to see.

Third: assess what requires longer-term work. Old articles, mugshots, court records, data broker listings — these take more time to address but have real paths.

Fourth: context matters. A 10-year-old article about an arrest that was expunged is different from a recent disciplinary action. Employers are people — context helps.

Fifth: if there's something specific that's a barrier, address it directly before you're in the hiring process, not during. Active job searching is the worst time to start suppression work.

By the numbers: 80% hiring managers report reviewing a candidate's online presence before making a decision.

What shows up matters — and it isn't always accurate or current.

How long does reputation management actually take? A realistic breakdown.

Fake review removal: 1–6 weeks (longer if escalation is required)
Personal information removal from data brokers: 2–8 weeks per site (there are 200+ sites, ongoing monitoring required)
Google cache de-indexing after source removal: 1–3 weeks
Search result suppression (pushing negative content below page 1): 3–9 months
News article removal: highly variable — from weeks (small outlet, factual error, willing publisher) to "not possible" (major outlet, accurate content)
Mugshot removal: 2–8 weeks per site once the process is identified

The pattern: removal of specific pieces of content is faster. Changing your overall search result composition — what people see when they search your name — takes longer.

Anyone who tells you they can change your search results in 30 days for complex suppression cases is over-promising.

Did you know? Deleting a post doesn't delete it everywhere.

Screenshots, cached pages, and web archives can keep content live long after you've taken it down. That's part of why ongoing monitoring matters, not just a single removal.

Quick question for professionals: when was the last time you Googled yourself?

Not your business — your name. The search that a potential employer, client, investor, or partner runs before a meeting.

If the answer is "more than 6 months ago" — a lot can change in 6 months. New content gets indexed. Old content accumulates more links.

And it takes about 5 minutes, in incognito mode, to get a current picture.

If you do it this week and find something unexpected — drop a comment (vague is fine) or message us. Happy to give you a read on what you're looking at.

Google Business Profile won't remove a review you flagged. Here are the escalation steps most businesses don't take.

Step 1: Flag through Google Business Profile.
What most businesses do: wait for an automated response, accept the outcome.

Step 2: Escalate through Google Business Profile support.
Contact Google's business support directly via chat or email, provide the specific policy violation, and request a manual review.

Step 3: File a legal removal request.
For reviews that contain defamatory statements, personal information, or other content that meets Google's legal removal criteria — there's a formal legal request pathway.

Step 4: Consult with an attorney.
If the review contains statements that meet the legal standard for defamation, a formal demand letter can sometimes prompt removal where platform escalation hasn't.

The first rejection from Google's automated system is not the final answer. Most businesses don't know there are 3 more steps.
