Spotify service's agreements with the big labels often short the artists behind the music.

The music streaming starts trading on the New York Stock Exchange Tuesday, but according to Gene Simmons, artists aren’t likely to see any profit from the move.

"At the end of the day the artists have gotten the rug pulled out from under them, and I'm shocked that legislators in Washington D.C. haven't taken the entire industry to task" Simmons said. "New artists are getting slaughtered because they're getting micro pennies out of a dollar."

"Spotify is getting rich and God bless them for it," Simmons said.

With music streaming services charging $9.99 for the same music, Iovine believes more interaction between the artist and the audience and original content are pivotal in order to survive.

Music streaming services are too similar and need to have more original content, Apple Music executive Jimmy Iovine told the BBC.

To the app makers themselves, Rihanna wrote, "Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away."

Shares of Snap are down for a second straight day after the social media giant received pointed criticism from Rihanna over a third-party ad that appeared to make light of domestic violence.
