WhatsApp to let users message without their phones. 😯😯

At present, WhatsApp is linked to a user's phone. Its desktop and web apps need that device to be connected and receiving messages.
But the new feature will let users send and receive messages "even if your phone battery is dead".
Up to four other devices - like PCs and tablets - can be used together, WhatsApp said.

Valve reveals handheld Steam Deck PC games console. 🤓😱🤑

The Steam Deck has been likened to the Nintendo Switch console in appearance but Valve says it will have the components of a high-end gaming laptop.
The built-in display is limited to high-definition 720p graphics but the console can also be connected to an external display.
One analyst said the device could start an era of handheld PC gaming.🤓🤓😎

WhatsApp tests encrypted cloud backups on Android. 🤓😱😯

When you’re using WhatsApp your messages are encrypted end-to-end, which means prying eyes can’t easily see what’s in them as they travel back and forth. However, if you keep a backup stored in the cloud, authorities can use a search warrant to have Google Drive or iCloud hand over access to the data. But WABetaInfo has reported previously that WhatsApp is working on the technology to independently encrypt your backups in the cloud, and says that in the most recent beta update on Android (2.21.15.5), the system has been enabled. 🤓😯

Intel is reportedly in talks to buy the $30 billion foundry company AMD spun off a decade ago 🤓🧐😯😯
In 2008, chipmakers Intel and AMD took two distinct paths: Intel kept manufacturing its own chips to maintain full control, while AMD decided to spin off its semiconductor business as GlobalFoundries, relying on it and other manufacturers to provide the actual silicon. Now, The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Intel is looking to snap up AMD’s former fabs as well, in a deal that could value them at $30 billion.

Xiaomi overtakes Apple in the global smartphone market 😱🏁
China — Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi was the second-largest smartphone maker in the second quarter, overtaking Apple, a new report from analyst firm Canalys showed.🤓

Xiaomi had a 17% share of global smartphone shipments, ahead of Apple’s 14% and behind Samsung’s 19%.

Microsoft reveals first Windows 365 pricing for PCs in the cloud 😀😁🤓
Microsoft announced its new Windows 365 service yesterday, but the company said it wouldn’t discuss pricing options until the Cloud PCs launch on August 2nd. Now, Microsoft has inadvertently revealed one pricing option, allowing businesses to use a virtual Windows PC in the cloud for $31 per user, per month.
