The good folks at gave me a great suggestion for this year's : SAHARA, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, adds to my growing collection of fun adventure posters for some under-appreciated gems of cinema.

It's a flick that went through just as rocky a journey getting made as Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt had finding the Ship of Death buried in the Saharan sands. I remember giving this movie a shot when it came to theaters, seeing as how it was clearly aiming for a mix of Indiana Jones level adventuring with James Bond levels of intrigue -- something a 10 year old Nate was definitely craving. Give it a watch next time you come across it, you too might find some treasure out of it too!

Riverboat ring your bell!

MAVERICK (1994) A film by Richard Donner, a poster by me.

Such a lavishly fun piece of cinema with a cast that could charm even the most disinterested moviegoer. I used to sort of "pass by" this movie in my life a lot where I had never really given it a watch for any given reason. But I do have a distinct memory of seeing it featured on the ads for the Warner Bros. 75th Anniversary VHS collection when I watched flicks as a kid. I've become smitten by this movie, honestly, and with such charismatic performances (yeah, even Mel...) it's easy to see why. has everything a good movie needs: humor, adventure, tension, and a script by the great that will keep you on guard for any new surprise. And not to forget, thanks to the score from the movie has beautiful and bouncy music reminiscent of Woody's themes from TOY STORY. Ante up because I bet you'll enjoy it too; it's streaming now on !
