Before interstates and trucking routes, everything moved through ports like Toledo.

Coal, iron, grain… the Port of Toledo helped fuel the rise of the Midwest and powered Great Lakes shipping for generations.

Take a look back at the history:

Toledo sits where the Maumee River meets Lake Erie. It was surrounded by swamp, connected by canal, fueled by coal, and today it handles 7.2 million tons of cargo a year across 13 terminals.

Lake Erie is kicking off the week with changing conditions that boaters need to watch closely.

Expect a mix of light winds and calmer water early in the week, with waves generally around 1–2 feet, making for some decent windows to get out on the lake.

But don’t get too comfortable. A more active pattern moves in mid-to-late week, bringing showers, thunderstorms, and shifting winds that can quickly change lake conditions.

By the weekend, things ramp up:
• Stronger winds
• Building waves
• Periods of rain and storms
