Every Wouxun GMRS radio I sell traces back to one amateur handheld — the 8+ watt KG-UV9P. Wouxun built the GMRS versions from it, and I told them what those versions needed to do for an American family that actually has to use one.
Here's what that turned into, left to right:
**KG-UV9G PRO** — the first GMRS version, and the first to ship programmed instead of blank.
**KG-UV9GX** — 906 channels programmed, four screen modes including a covert mode for night, 220 MHz receive, a brighter flashlight, stiffer k***s that don't get bumped off channel in a pack, and an emergency reset that leaves you 44 working channels instead of nothing.
**KG-UV9GX+** — all of that, plus a screen that looks twice as bright in direct sun, USB-C charging off your phone adapter, and the fix for the battery drain that used to flatten a radio sitting in a go-bag.
One thing the chart doesn't say out loud: because these are built on an 8+ watt amateur platform but transmit at GMRS power, they run well within themselves. Higher duty cycle, longer life.
Full breakdown in the graphic. GMRS license required — it's a form, no test, and it covers your whole household for ten years.
