49 CFR 390.32 lets you keep and show almost any federal document electronically, and CVSA tells every inspector in the US and Canada to accept it.
Still paper, no exceptions: your CDL card. Hazmat shipping papers and emergency response info — electronic is not accepted at roadside. Most oversize/overweight permits. And your paper med card if you drive a non-CDL CMV or your license is from AK, CA, KY, LA or NH.
Phone is fine: logs and supporting docs, ELD manuals and the malfunction sheet, annual inspection report, your lease, non-hazmat BOLs and PODs, IRP cab card and IFTA license.
Two things that get people written up anyway: store the files offline, because roadside has no signal. And scan the original — typing the info into a form creates a new document, not a copy.
