Many of your accounts (banking, payroll, social media, shopping) use your email for password resets. If someone gets into your inbox, they can often get into your other accounts too. That's why CISA and the FTC both recommend protecting your email with multifactor authentication.
**Here's a 10 minute fix:**
1. Open your email account's security settings.
2. Look for "2 step verification" or "multifactor authentication" and turn it on.
3. Choose an authenticator app or security key if offered.
4. Save your backup codes somewhere safe.
Never share a verification code with anyone who contacts you first, no matter who they say they are.
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, so this is a good week to knock it out. Questions? The InformaTek team in Lawrence is always happy to help.
