While the entire internet is going crazy over Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider and the next Avengers trailer…
Something much more serious just happened in comics.
Comix Wellspring, a major printer that a lot of independent creators relied on, just shut down.
This isn’t just one company going under. It’s a clear sign that the post-COVID crowdfunding boom is over, the money has dried up, and small creators are about to get squeezed hard. Print runs of 50–200 books — the lifeblood of true independent comics — are becoming harder and more expensive to produce. The bigger publishers are already vacuuming up what’s left of the crowdfunding dollars.
Most people aren’t talking about this. They’re too busy chasing the next big Hollywood announcement.
I sat down and broke the whole situation down in this video. No fluff. Just what’s actually happening and why it matters for the future of independent comics.
