The "two-week patch window" is officially a relic of the past.

In today's landscape, the time between a new vulnerability being discovered and an AI-powered bot finding its way into your network has shrunk from days to literally minutes.

Tools like AI-driven exploit chains are collapsing the defense window. If your strategy still relies on waiting for the next scheduled maintenance cycle, you’re already operating behind the curve.

At Vanderson Cyber Group, we emphasize the "Minutes, Not Days" Rule. Proactive defense isn’t just a "best practice" anymore: it’s the only way to stay ahead of automated attacks.

Waiting for a standard 72-hour remediation deadline? In the era of AI-speed exploitation, that’s often 71 hours too late.

Is your organization ready for the speed of modern threats? Let’s talk about shifting from reactive patching to a truly proactive security posture.

Think your business is too small to be a target? Think again. 🛡️

The recent ransomware attack on the Minot Water Plant is a massive wake-up call. Hackers didn't just go after a Fortune 500 giant: they targeted a local utility, forcing staff to switch to manual operations for 16 hours just to keep the water safe and flowing.

The 'Too Small to Target' myth is one of the most dangerous beliefs in business today. For cybercriminals, it’s not always about a massive data heist. Often, the goal is pure disruption of service. If you provide something your community or customers rely on, you have a target on your back. 🎯

At Vanderson Cyber Group, Dr. Mack Jackson Jr specializes in helping small shops and mid-sized teams build the same level of resilience as the big players. We focus on proactive education and custom security policies so a "bad day" doesn't turn into a total shutdown.

Don’t wait for a ransom note to find out your defenses are thin. Let’s get your organization secure and stay a step ahead of the threat.

You can buy the best locks in the world, but if you leave the key under the mat, the lock doesn't matter.

In cybersecurity, we call this the "Maturity Mirage." 🌫️

It’s that feeling of safety you get after signing a big check for the latest AI-powered firewall or high-end encryption software. You look at your stack of tools and think, "We're covered."

But here’s the reality: More gear doesn’t mean more security.

Tools are just noise without a roadmap. If your team hasn't been trained to recognize a phishing attempt, or if your internal security policies are sitting in a dusty PDF from 2018, that shiny software is just a false sense of security.

The bridge between "buying stuff" and "being secure" is education.

At Vanderson Cyber Group, we focus on closing that gap. Because a well-trained team is the most powerful firewall you’ll ever own.

Ready to move past the mirage? Let’s talk about building a culture of security, not just a stack of software.

Remember when spotting a phishing scam was easy? You’d look for a misspelled word or a weirdly phrased 'Dear Valued Custmer,' and that was your cue to hit delete.

Those days are officially over.

With the rise of AI, cybercriminals are now sending emails that are grammatically perfect and professionally written. They sound just like your boss, your bank, or your favorite vendor. AI doesn't make typos, which means the old 'red flags' won't save you anymore.

So, how do you stay safe? You need a new 'gut-check' process:

1. Was I expecting this? Even if it looks perfect, if it’s unexpected, be suspicious.
2. Is there forced urgency? AI is great at making you feel like you need to act NOW. Take a breath instead.
3. Where does that link actually go? Hover over it (don't click!) to see the real destination.

In the age of AI, we have to look past the spelling and start questioning the intent. Stay sharp, everyone.

If you want to keep your team ahead of these evolving threats, let's talk about our latest awareness training.

Ever wondered why a scammer would tell you to drive to a local store to pay a "bill"? It’s called the Crypto ATM Trap, and it’s designed to bypass your bank’s security.

Scammers posing as tech support or government officials create fake emergencies to cause panic. They’ll guide you to a physical Bitcoin kiosk to deposit cash to "secure" your funds.

Why a kiosk? Once you feed cash into that machine, it’s gone instantly. Unlike bank transfers, these transactions can't be reversed. It’s like handing an envelope of cash to a stranger in an alley.

The Golden Rule: No real government agency, police department, or tech company will EVER ask you to visit a Bitcoin ATM. If they do, it is 100% a scam.

Let’s look out for our parents and grandparents. Talk to them about this today. Awareness is our strongest defense.

Stay safe out there,

Ever been asked to enter a code on your phone to log into your computer? It feels like a standard security check, right?

Welcome to the 'Two-Device' Trap.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is one of our best defenses, but hackers have found a way to use our trust in it against us. Here’s how they do it: You get a prompt on your screen: maybe a fake login page or a phishing email: asking you to "Enter this device code" on your secondary device.

If you didn’t just trigger a login yourself, DON'T enter that code.

By typing that number into your phone or browser, you aren’t securing your account. You’re actually authorizing the hacker to log in on their machine. They’re relying on your habit of "just following the prompts" to bypass your security.

MFA is powerful, but it’s not a substitute for staying alert. If a security prompt comes out of nowhere, treat it like a stranger at your front door: don't let it in.

Stay safe out there.

Imagine getting a call from your grandchild. They sound exactly like themselves: the same tone, the same laugh: but they’re in trouble and need help right away. Before you panic, stop and think. Is it actually them?

Scammers are now using AI to clone voices with as little as 2 seconds of audio pulled from social media. It’s called the 'Grandchild Scam,' and it’s becoming more common every day. By harvesting a short clip from a video you or your family posted online, criminals can create a near-perfect digital copy of a loved one's voice to trick you during a high-pressure "emergency."

But there’s a simple, low-tech way to beat this high-tech threat: The Family Safe Word.

I recommend sitting down with your family this week and agreeing on a secret word or phrase that only you know. If you ever get a suspicious call, even if it sounds identical to your child or grandchild, ask for the safe word. If they can’t provide it, hang up immediately.

It’s a quick conversation that can save your family from a devastating scam. Have you set your family safe word yet?

Stay safe out there.
