ThredUp sold this week & lessons.
I’ve had so many higher ticket item sales however almost 50% of the over 100-200$ items yielded in a return especially for dresses. It’s almost like the buyers shop on ThredUp just for the occasion and to return the dress afterwards. Personally I think they should fix their return policy. However since they do guarantee your pay out after the second time it’s sold, most of the time the item gets sold without an issue. Just the returns are quite alarming in my opinion. I suppose to ThredUp if the item is sold 2 times already, even if it is returned again then it will sell again. It’s a great mindset to have as a seller that return is apart of the business. If your item is returned don’t be discouraged it will be sold again! But I can’t help to think if there’s people out there abusing Thredups return program.
Buy backs are 5.99$ each item. I will not be buying back most of the inventory we sent in unless it’s ASP 200$ plus. Given the revenue I earned so far I don’t think it’s very wise to buy back, because I will most definitely be in the negative. And this experiment would be a giant costly mistake then 😂
I have sent in 1 out of 6 boxes for August. Working on the rest of the boxes right now. Testing 1 box of newly sourced items mid tier. Working on a higher tierd box and then rest will be older sitting inventory.
With that said, my first batch I adjusted the prices to the max on all premium kits. ThredUp does warn you about slower sales due to higher prices. I will be also testing a new box this month leaving the price at thredups suggested price. I will let you guys know how that goes! This has been interesting so far and honestly I am still going back and forth on this every other day- do I like ThredUp or not!? Is it worth my time? The constant monitoring and price reducing reminds me of the old Amazon selling book days 😂 the irony is that people often use thredup to be hands off. I didn’t expect that this requires this much monitoring and time. Thats also why Im changing strategies.
Follow along my ThredUp journey. How’s yours going?
