Quick repair today as I got back home late Friday and heading out early Monday so no time really but just needed a dab of solder on the antenna so239 connector and a new Rx amplifier transistor. This seems to be one of the original mrf455 DX250’s that folks love. Beyond those small fixes, has spec output and clean modulation.

Have quite a few hams here in Vegas and close by that are always interested in these because they only need a 20-30 amp supply, smaller foot print and these days , work excellent on those SDR low RF output transceivers like the Xiegu 90.

If anyone needs Texas Star parts besides the RF transistors, let me know as I have most caps, resistors and relays. The ones that have bad RF finals, typically there’s more wrong and one needs to start testing all passive components for OEM specs, my opinion of course. Use of high quality and tight on tolerance of parts, these TS will last a long while for you.

What’s your thoughts on these new AnyTone AT5000’s? Picked one up to check out. Not much on power so thought to add a AD203 RM Italy amp to it.
Removed the heat sink and mounted the 4 MOSFET transistors on the aluminum back heat sink and wired them to board.
The plastic cover with the speaker cannot sit normally but added a 6mm pc board extension column at 2.5mm screw size and removed speaker.
These RM amps state only 2.5 watts input but at that value, output was around 25-30 watts pep. Ended up setting the AT5000 at mid range so SSB pep is at 50-55. Also had to add a 1000uf eCap on the relay to delay the off key of relay when using on SSB.

All in all, works pretty good in my Tacoma Pickup. Reached out this evening, Las Vegas to Boulder CO. Antenna is a President Maryland, mounted on the left front fender Cowl position.

If interested, should have 6 of these AT5000’s in a few weeks or early August. QEST let me purchase 6 but selling price has be no less than 190$.
Going to experiment a bit on one of these with changing put the irf520’s with Z44’s and adding a DC to DC voltage board to dry those MOSFETs from 12vdc to 19-20.

Customer asked for a mic adapter with a larger gauge wire so found this 18 gauge audio cable that works excellent. Can put most any plug combination needed for a wire to wire adapter.

Price is fair, $16.

Been asked lately on custom mic adapters and yes, can typically make up one for specific radios and microphones if schematics are available and you are absolutely sure what radio the microphone you have works on.

This particular, Cobra 4 pin to a NuVox 23 channel CB. Might notice the small box in the middle. In this radio, one half of the DPDT mic switch moves positive DC voltage in the power supply circuit. Since the customer’s microphone switches negative voltage for both mic audio, speaker ground and Tx voltage switch, need to us a micro 12vdc relay to separate positive and negative. One can use a semiconductor too but these small relays fit most places these days.

If you have need for something like this, message me for details. Price on these custom ones can be a tad higher due to parts, added cable length and the relay. To me 16$ is a fair price.

Finished the C2K and dropped off at owners home. From first reports, radio is operating at expectations. Another one that will be on the air for many more years. Thanks for trusting me with your radio.
