You think you found a short on this MacBook Pro? Hold on—we need to verify the test points first!

Not every point on a logic board is an active line. By checking the schematic and testing the correct points, we confirmed a short to ground on the PPBUS_G3H power rail.

Now we're moving on to the fuse to find out where the fault is coming from.

We're still new to this venture, but we're enjoying every bit of practice as we work toward becoming better at board-level repairs.

Do you spot the tiny pin that's throwing off this Xbox connector alignment?

We already found a solder bridge, but now there's another issue. One of the connector legs is sitting too far to the left!

With pins this close together, we have to slow down and carefully reposition the leg without disturbing the surrounding connections.

It's a small adjustment, but every detail matters in board-level repair.

🤔 What if the Thunderbolt chips aren't the problem?

This MacBook Pro is receiving 20V, but it still won't boot!

The CD3215 and CD3217 Thunderbolt chips are common components to consider during MacBook power diagnostics. But in this case, that 20V reading gives us an important clue.

The board has successfully negotiated the higher voltage, so we're moving on to investigate the main power rails for shorts or other issues.

🔧 Every voltage reading tells us something. The key is knowing what to check next.

Everything looked good… until we found THIS solder bridge. 😳

The replacement Xbox connector was finally sitting in position, and we were working through the pins one by one.

Then we spotted a solder bridge between two pins.

Instead of forcing it, we slowed down and reassessed the connection. In board-level repair, sometimes patience and control matter more than speed.

Do You Recognize These Early Warning Signs When a MacBook Pro Won’t Boot? 👀

This MacBook Pro is getting 20V at VBUS, so power is definitely making its way into the machine.

But here's the problem…

The current draw is only around 0.039A and stays essentially flat.

That's not what we'd expect during a normal boot cycle.

So we know the MacBook is receiving power—but something is stopping the board from progressing through startup.

And this is where the real diagnosis begins. 🔬

Next question: Could one of the Thunderbolt chips be the reason this MacBook isn't booting?

What If the Xbox Ribbon Connector Doesn’t Seat Properly? 👀

This is the moment where alignment really matters.

The replacement connector is being positioned with controlled heat while we carefully watch the solder flow and make sure the pins stay aligned.

The connector may look perfectly seated—but the repair isn't finished yet. The anchor posts still need to be secured, and every connection needs to be inspected.

Forget adding more USB hubs — this might be the cleaner solution. 👀

The connector is out. But the motherboard isn't ready yet. 👀

Before installing the replacement Xbox ribbon connector, we need to prepare the pads properly.

That means cleaning up the old solder, making sure the anchor post can sit flush, tinning the pads, and using the preheater to help the solder flow across this larger board.

It doesn't go perfectly on the first attempt—and that's exactly why we don't force it.

Clean it. Rework it. Try again.

Why Using Too Much Glue Can Be Bad for Your Earbud Repair

The JLab Epic Open Sport was working again.

But experienced repair work doesn't stop the moment the device powers on. 🔧

Before closing everything up, we still needed to protect the repaired battery connections with UV mask, cure them, carefully reassemble the housing, and seal everything properly.

And here's something easy to overlook:

More adhesive doesn't necessarily mean a better repair.

If the earbud ever needs to be opened again, excessive glue can make the next repair much more difficult.

So we used just enough adhesive to secure the housing while keeping future serviceability in mind.
