Had a one-off today...one of my busier stores escalated a pinpad call for a non-functioning chip card reader. I tested it with my own personal chipped credit card in training mode and it worked just fine. Come to find out, this particular pinpad refused to recognize Visa cards, but worked fine with MasterCards...hmmm!

Never, EVER leave the customer's equipment in worse shape than you found it. If the part you just replaced didn't change the symptom, then put the original part BACK in. You might just have a DOA (Dead On Arrival) replacement, or a misdiagnosis.
