Do you allow extensions in Chrome’s Incognito windows?

Of 268,620 current extensions, just 0.6% declared separate Incognito contexts. Even that setting does not separate all extension storage.

Extensions need your permission to run there. Before enabling one, check what it saves from private browsing—and whether that information reaches your account.

A heads-up for anyone using the Chrome-Stats API or raw data CSVs for Firefox add-ons.

We are correcting a weakness in how we identify Firefox add-ons. The id field has been returning the AMO slug, but a slug is not stable: an owner can rename it, and a slug freed up when an add-on is removed from AMO can later be claimed by a different add-on. Either case can quietly leave your data pointing at the wrong add-on.

From October 1, 2026, the id for Firefox add-ons will be the add-on's stable GUID, with the current slug still available in the slug field. You can test the new response today by adding ffid=guid to your requests, and ffid=slug will keep the current response for a while after the cutover if you need more time.

Raw data CSVs change on the same date, and CSVs published before then are not regenerated.

Microsoft Edge’s Manifest V2 transition is underway, but the remaining catalog is easy to misread.

Chrome-Stats found 3,347 current MV2 listings. Nearly all were more than two years past their store update, yet 240 still displayed at least 10,000 users.

For administrators, the useful next step is a deployed-extension inventory: find the MV2 IDs your organization actually uses, test their MV3 replacement path, and give every temporary exception an owner. Is your inventory ready for the transition?

Most of Google Play is rated Everyone, but that store-wide benchmark hides a sharp shift at scale.

Among 3.15 million current listings, 90.6% displayed Everyone. In the 1M+ download band, the share was 76.5%, while 19.1% were Teen or older.

The takeaway for app teams: compare your rating with similar categories and audience sizes—and keep the questionnaire aligned with the product. The pattern does not show that a rating causes downloads. Which benchmark is most useful for your app?

How often do Android apps actually update?

Across 3.1 million current Google Play listings, 73.0% showed an update in the past year and 38.3% in the past 90 days. Apps with 1 million+ downloads moved faster, but the smallest band wasn’t the slowest.

Does this match what you see in the apps you use or maintain?

Multi-language Chrome extensions had a median of 72 displayed users, compared with 11 for single-language listings.

They were also more likely to cross every audience threshold. Within the same broad user bands, their median star ratings were equal or higher and their store updates more recent.

The pattern is consistent, but it cannot tell us whether localization drove success or successful extensions later added languages. Which came first for your product?

A “Get” button tells you the price to download an app—not the cost of the complete experience.

Across 2.19 million current App Store listings, 96.9% were free to download and 23.4% listed in-app purchases. Among large categories, the IAP rate ranged from 2.9% in Shopping to 53.0% in Photo & Video.

The practical takeaway: compare monetization within the closest category, and do not treat the absence of an IAP badge as proof that an app has no revenue model. Where does this benchmark surprise you?

The Chrome Web Store’s biggest category is not the one with the biggest audience total.

Tools contains 38.5% of current MV3 extensions, but Workflow & Planning—at 16.9% of listings—holds 43.9% of aggregate displayed-user values. A few very large extensions also shape those totals.

The practical takeaway for developers: use category as a comparison group, then benchmark the typical listing and the audience threshold that matters to your product. How crowded is your extension’s real niche?

Most Microsoft Edge extension publishers have a single add-on, but the store also contains a small group of very large portfolios.

In a 31,243-listing snapshot, 22 publisher accounts held 15.4% of the catalog, and recent store-update dates were much less common in that tier.

The practical takeaway: use portfolio size to guide review, not to prejudge an extension.
