Modern modes of transport are gradually switching to electric traction, which is good news. Personal transport is still a curiosity for many, but the process has already begun - gyroscopes, unicycles, bicycles and electric scooters are gradually reaching the masses, and people are starting to trust the new energy of movement more. The most optimal and practical, according to experts, is a scooter. It has a large power reserve, is easy to carry and is very compact for storage and transport. This is a really serious mode of transport that allows you to quickly and comfortably move over long distances without any special physical costs. Below we will tell you how to choose the right electric scooter and put everything on the shelves in order to structure a rational approach to buying.

What engine power to choose?

more than 250 W - for men and speed lovers

The more powerful the electric motor built into the wheel, the faster acceleration will be performed and more traction for climbing the hill. This is especially true for people with a lot of weight - from 90 kg. For lighter ones, 250 watts of power will be enough. Such an engine will allow you to start moving more smoothly, and the battery will not be consumed so actively.
The best option for people weighing more than 80 kg is a 350-500 W motor. More powerful engines, up to 1000 W, in addition to rapid acceleration, will provide the ability to climb a steep hill, but the battery will also be “landed out” for this climb very quickly. In our opinion, it is better to climb a small hill on foot, but then calmly drive 10 km. However, it is worth mentioning that in addition to engine power, the wheel diameter is also an important parameter.

Electric scooters have become an integral part of our lives over the past few years. After all, this is not only a compact means of transportation in urban conditions, which can significantly reduce travel time. When you reach a public transport stop, you can fold your travel device and get to your destination using the bus or metro. You can ride an electric scooter with friends in the park or in the countryside, getting a lot of pleasure from walking in the fresh air and socializing. And in order for the equipment to serve for a long time and remain a reliable means of transportation for a long time, it is important to know the basic rules of care and maintenance.

When considering the operation of electric scooters, you need to understand what should be done before and after each trip, as well as know the rules for storing equipment, while paying considerable attention to the issue of battery operation.

What to do before every trip
To make the walk a success and not have to get stuck somewhere on the road, before starting the ride you should:

conduct a preliminary inspection of the vehicle, focusing on the wheels, which, if necessary, need to be pumped up, and the battery. You can not go on a trip if the battery is swollen or has traces of smudges. Such a battery must be disposed of by replacing it with a new one with the same voltage and no less capacity. Be sure to inspect the brakes for serviceability;
check that all bolts, nuts and eccentrics are tightened. Particular attention should be paid to tightening the wheels, handlebars and folding mechanism. If necessary, they must be tightened with wrenches and hex keys;

make sure that the battery is fully charged, otherwise you can simply not reach your destination;
if a trip is planned, and it is rainy outside, then you need to be sure that the electric scooter has a sufficient degree of moisture protection. To do this, in the documents for road equipment, you should pay attention in the technical specifications to the parameters of the degree of protection against moisture, the values of which determine whether it is possible to drive in light rain or heavy rain. At the same time, it should be taken into account that if the battery is located in the deck of the scooter, then it is forbidden to ride through puddles. If the battery is located higher, for example in the steering rack, you can drive on roads with small puddles. With low values \u200b\u200bof the degree of protection against moisture or the absence of such, you should not go out in the rain, even a little. Otherwise, moisture can get into the electrical equipment and the equipment will fail.
What to do after every ride
After arriving home, the electric scooter should first of all be wiped in all accessible places with a wet cloth, cleaning it from dust, dirt and sand, which, if it gets on the rubbing parts of the equipment, significantly reduces the life of all components. It is strictly forbidden to wash the electric scooter under running water. And after a trip in rainy weather, you should thoroughly dry the road device with a dry cloth. Do not dry the electric scooter in the cold in the garage or on the balcony, otherwise the water will freeze and damage it.

After the end of the walk, the battery must be put on charge and charged to 100% if you plan to leave in the near future. In the event that skiing is not planned, the battery can be charged by about half, which increases its service life.

Pre-Storage Care Tips
Before storing the electric scooter for long-term storage, you must do the following:

thoroughly clean the entire device from dirt and dust with a damp cloth. You can remove the electrical equipment, rinse the scooter under running water, then dry all the parts and assemble it;
The battery should be charged by 50-70%. For longer storage, the battery can be removed and placed separately in a cool room at a temperature of +1 to +10 degrees. In this case, the self-discharge of the battery will be less;
it is better to lubricate all rubbing metal parts, hinges, latches with a special agent;
the tires of the wheels must be pumped up if the scooter will stand on wheels during storage. If he lies in the pantry, the tires should be lowered;
auxiliary electrical appliances, such as parking lights or headlights, must be disconnected from the power supply by removing the batteries from them;
special attention should be paid to the room where the electric scooter will be stored. It must be dry. Direct sunlight on the equipment and the location of operating heating devices near it should be avoided. In extreme cases, you can store equipment on an unheated balcony if the room is dry. But in severe frosts, the battery should be removed and transferred to a warmer room. Once every two to three months, it is necessary to inspect the road device, paying attention primarily to the battery.

Electric scooters: pros and cons
Electric scooters have firmly entered our lives. In Ukraine, scooter sharing systems are actively starting to work, and sales in this segment are growing every day. This is not surprising, because the electric scooter is convenient, easy to use and does not require any physical training. In addition, we are all now looking for alternative options for how to get to work in conditions of quarantine and blocked transport.

However, like everything else, electric scooters have their pros and cons. The main advantages and disadvantages faced by the owners of electric scooters are described below. Before buying, evaluate the pros and cons of this type of vehicle and make an informed choice.
1. Electric scooters are a great investment

True, buying an electric scooter will initially cost you several hundred dollars. Some of them can cost a thousand or even several thousand dollars, but you can easily find amazing scooters for less than $1000. However, the bulk of the money you will spend on your electric scooter will be right at the start. After that, the cost of riding the scooter is practically not required, except in the event of a malfunction after the warranty period has expired. The cost of electricity to charge an electric scooter is ridiculously low. Certainly cheaper than fuel for your car, it is much more expensive. We do not want to say that it is free, but it is really cheaper.

In big cities, the cost of public transport tickets for one year will be the same as buying a mid-range electric scooter. It's actually not difficult, you pay for your scooter now and then you have a practically free mode of transport. We don't even mention taxis here. Comparing the cost of a taxi ride to the cost of riding an electric scooter is like comparing the cost of building a rocket ship to the cost of building a car. Electric scooters, along with some other personal modes of transport, are by far the most economical means of transportation. Nothing compares to them for the price per kilometer.

2. Electric scooters are not expensive (most of them)

saving money

Most consumer-grade electric scooters cost several hundred dollars. You can find great scooters for less than $500, and scooters that cost around $1,000 are almost always great quality.

This is the cheapest mode of transport that you can ride without any effort. They are definitely cheaper than cars or motorcycles. Some great scooters are even cheaper than many regular bikes. Of course, there are many and expensive models. They will also pay for themselves over time, but not as quickly as budget models.

Fortunately, these are exceptions. Most scooters are priced for the average person, they are very affordable and have great features. Moreover, over time, the cost of electric scooters decreases. Like all great technologies, it is becoming cheaper, although it is constantly being improved.

3. Riding an electric scooter costs nothing

Riding a scooter

Well, technically it's not quite right, but it's very close. The price of one charge will depend both on your location and on the scooter itself (in particular, on its battery). However, the cost will still be in the region of several hryvnias. For example, charging the Xiaomi M365 Pro costs about 4 cents in the US, about 6 pence in the UK, and between 3 and 8 euro cents in most of Europe. In total for a couple of hryvnias you will get several tens of kilometers of range.

4. Electric scooters are fun

Scooter is fun

In fact, this may be the most important factor for a significant portion of electric scooter owners. It is possible that this is the main reason why electric scooters have become so widespread and widely used. After all, they are a lot of fun to ride!

When you easily drive through the streets of the city, there is a certain feeling of flow, presence in the moment, so to speak. Of course, it's better than napping on the subway or bus. No wonder people love them.

5. Electric scooters are easy to ride

An electric scooter may seem a bit complicated for those who have never ridden one before. If you have not done this and decided to try it, you will be surprised how easily and quickly you learn to manage it. All you have to do is start with a push and then just hit the throttle. There is nothing easier. It's even easier than riding a bike!

6. Electric scooters do not tire the rider

Unlike other free modes of transport such as bicycles, skateboards or traditional scooters, electric scooters are different in that they do not require any physical effort on the part of the rider to move them. That's why many managers choose them for their trips to the office, they just come to work clean and ready, not sweaty, dirty and tired. Surprisingly, an electric scooter is the best combination of almost free
