Never forget that you are not alone. Now, then, and forever.

Generations of advocacy and collaboration have gone into the work that built the spaces where we gather in community today.

The Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall, where Tlingit & Haida is hosting the 91st Annual Tribal Assembly this week, is one of those places.

The Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood both formed in the second decade of the Twentieth Century as grassroots organizations to fight for civil rights and social justice.

Together, their land claims advocacy led in part to the federal recognition of Tlingit & Haida as a sovereign tribal government, empowered to gather our people together to steward our future.
The 91st Annual Tribal Assembly will be held this Wednesday, September 23, through Friday, September 25. This year’s theme is “Unbreakable Unity, Ancestral Strength” — a powerful nod to what is possible when we form as one across space and time.

Similarly, the Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood Grand Camp Convention’s theme this year is “Connecting Generations Through Our Values” — reflecting the strength of traditional values paired with community action. The Grand Camp Convention will be held October 4-7 in Ketchikan, where both the Ketchikan Camp and Saxman Camp will celebrate their 100 year anniversaries in 2026.

Nowadays, digital gathering spaces also connect us, which is why Tlingit & Haida invested in Gumboots Go! as a way for our youth to learn traditional practices and historical teachings from earlier generations, as in this video. Online Gumboots Go! resources can be found at ( www.youtube.com//featured ) Háw’aa and gunalchéesh to our Elders and leaders for stewarding these spaces where we can share wisdom across generations.

Gathering together in community to teach and share traditional practices is how we strengthen our ways of life.

Tlingit & Haida launched the Harvest series in order to create digital gathering spaces to share traditional practices like fermenting gink piles, reflecting a core cultural value of using every part of the animal. You can find the complete digital gathering space for the Harvest series on YouTube.

Next week, Tlingit & Haida is hosting an in-person gathering that is paramount to this purpose as they welcome elected delegates and tribal citizens from across Alaska and the West Coast to the 91st Annual Tribal Assembly.

The event will be held September 23–25 at Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall, and is free and open to tribal citizens and delegates. More information can be found at:

It was an honor to work with Robert Miller // Life Below Zero Next Generation recently in the rebuild of Sea Fur Sewing's website, showcasing and selling sustainably sourced, hand sewn seal and sea otter fur products from Sitka, Alaska.

Robert's an exceptional individual who is carrying on a tradition that has been with Tlingit people since the start of time. He gives seal meat away to Sitka elders so that they can enjoy more traditional food, and works with local youth to educate and empower them in the culture.

Sea Fur Sewing already had a great multimedia library, and it was our pleasure to team up with Robert to strategically create both an updated e-commerce portal as well as a dynamic story about his process and experience.

So see it for yourself!

With autumn on the horizon, many Southeast Alaska communities will soon enter the important subsistence cycle of seal hunting season.

Several seasons ago, Cedar was welcomed into Hydaburg to document a hunt as an educational resource to help maintain this tradition by sharing it with youth.

We are thankful to Xángalaay Claude Young and everyone in the community who took us on this journey with them, to share this wisdom with future generations.

We are thrilled for opening night!

"Ḵutulagaaw: The Tlingit-Russian Battles" is an amazing collaboration between Sealaska Heritage Institute and our new parters at Perseverance Theatre to tell stories from the Tlingit-Russian War in Alaska waged in 1802 and 1804, based on historical facts and oral traditions, as told from the Tlingit perspective.

We're also excited to see our coworkers Shak'shaani Éesh Konrad Frank and Frank Henry Kaash Katasse up on stage. Like all of the cast and crew, they have been working tirelessly to bring this incredible production to life.

A heartfelt gunalchéesh goes out to everyone who helped with this premiere tonight.

Break a (Russian) leg!

Formline is informed, defined, and passed down by generations of Northwest Coast artists. This long cultural lineage leads both to strong standards of practice as well as plenty of predecessors to draw inspiration from.

Rico Lanáat’ Worl is a Tlingit and Athabascan designer and artist with training in anthropology, whose work speaks to the experience of living with Indigenous values and innovation in the modern world.

Inspired both by traditional masters and modern applications, he hopes that introducing traditional art through modern products creates greater accessibility for Indigenous people to represent who they are in their day to day lives with pride.

Understanding the art form at a high level is foundational for being able to showcase it in unique ways. We’re thankful that he is using his talents and years of craft to showcase rich traditions today. Gunalchéesh!

Support from World Wildlife Fund helped Metlakatla Indian Community document their mariculture innovations for community economic stability, setting an example for future generations of kelp farmers.

Kelp farming can become a sustainable portion of the solution to food security, especially when operated by those who have known these waters for thousands of years. Through mariculture, Metlakatla is supplementing seasonal fishing with kelp harvests that can come between the salmon runs, resulting in year-round food and income generation.

It was an amazing journey to support this work visually, and we can't wait to see the rewards reaped over future seasons and generations.

Will the real Ian D'Amore please stand up?

Sometimes, a team member’s style is so iconic that it is important to practice a collaborative office empathy exercise allowing everyone to show support for that individual and walk a workday in their shorts.

To celebrate the good weather today, Cedar’s Juneau office communally lifted up the utilitarian fashion of one of our hero Project Coordinators, recognizing the tremendous effort and minimalist flare he brings to work every day.

Easy. Breezy. Beautiful!
