Your marketing doesn’t need more content. It needs a point.

There’s a lot of pressure on businesses to constantly create.

Post every day.
Make more videos.
Start a TikTok.
Send more emails.
Write another blog.
Keep feeding the algorithm.

But more content doesn’t automatically mean better marketing.

Before you create another post, ask one simple question:

What do we want someone to do, think, or remember after seeing this?

Maybe you want them to understand what makes your business different. Maybe you want them to visit your website. Maybe you want them to trust you enough to make a call. Or maybe you simply want them to remember your name when they need what you offer.

That’s the difference between creating content and doing marketing.

You don’t need to shout louder or post more often.

You need a clear message, a reason for saying it, and a strategy for getting it in front of the right people.

That’s where good marketing starts.

Thank you to everyone who gave!

MOHAWK VALLEY, THANK YOU!

We set out with a goal of raising $36,000 during Mohawk Valley Gives.

Because of YOU, Rescue Mission of Utica raised an incredible…

$116,165!

We are humbled by the generosity of everyone who donated, shared our posts, told a friend, encouraged others to give, and helped make this remarkable day possible.

But the most important number isn’t $116,165. It’s the number of lives your generosity will touch.

Your support helps provide meals for people facing hunger, safe shelter for those experiencing homelessness, recovery support, essential resources, and opportunities for our neighbors to build more stable and independent lives.

Every donation represents someone in our community saying, “Our neighbors matter.”

To our donors, matching-grant supporters, volunteers, advocates, the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, and everyone who made Mohawk Valley Gives possible: thank you.

You didn’t simply help us exceed a fundraising goal.

You helped give hope. You helped change lives. And you showed just how extraordinary the Mohawk Valley can be when we come together.

From everyone at Rescue Mission of Utica, THANK YOU for helping us raise $116,165!

Together, we are building a stronger Mohawk Valley.

This is one of the biggest mistakes new business owners make.

Consumers aren’t necessarily rejecting AI. They’re rejecting marketing that feels like AI.

New research finds that 60% of U.S. consumers are turned off when brands emphasize AI in their messaging, while 86% say they distrust AI-generated answers.

That should tell businesses something important.

As AI makes it easier than ever to produce more content, being genuinely human is becoming more valuable, not less.

Your experience. Your personality. Your community. Your point of view. Those are things worth building a brand around.

In our latest blog, we look at why the rise of “AI slop” may actually create a major opportunity for local businesses and brands willing to sound like real people again.

Human isn’t old-fashioned. It might be your competitive advantage.

For the past few years, businesses have been racing to tell customers how much artificial intelligence they’re using.AI-powered. AI-driven. AI-enhanced. AI-generated.For a while, simply attaching “AI” to a product or service made it sound innovative. That honeymoon may be ending.New research hi...

What makes a business succeed or fail?

Recently, I watched a new store preparing to open in a mall that appears to be slowly dying.A young woman was sweeping the floor and dusting the shelves. Yet outside the store, the hallways were quiet. Several neighboring storefronts were vacant, and only a handful of shoppers passed by.It made me w...

Every week I hear one of two opinions:

"AI is going to replace everyone."

Or...

"AI is just a fad."

The truth is somewhere in the middle.

I use AI nearly every day. It helps me brainstorm ideas, organize information, overcome writer's block, summarize research, and even challenge my own thinking.

But here's what it doesn't do.

It doesn't understand my client's business like I do.

It doesn't know their customers.

It doesn't know their values.

And it certainly doesn't know whether an idea is actually the right one.

That's still my job.

Too often, I see businesses copy and paste whatever AI generates and hit "Publish." The result is content that sounds polished, but could have been written for almost anyone. It checks the boxes without creating a connection.

The best use of AI isn't replacing expertise. It's amplifying it.

Here's how I think businesses should use tools like ChatGPT:

• Brainstorm ideas when you're staring at a blank page.

• Organize complex information into something easier to understand.

• Generate multiple headline options.

• Improve grammar and readability.

• Research topics more efficiently.

• Help repurpose one piece of content into many formats.

Here's what you should never let AI do on its own:

• Make important business decisions.

• Publish factual information without verifying it.

• Write in a voice that doesn't sound like your company.

• Replace customer relationships.

• Eliminate the human review process.

AI can save hours every week.

What you do with those saved hours is what creates value.

Use that extra time to call a client.

Learn your industry.

Improve your service.

Build relationships.

Create something only you could create.

Technology has always rewarded people who learn to use it well. AI is no different.

The businesses that thrive won't necessarily be the ones with the most AI tools.

They'll be the ones that combine technology with experience, creativity, empathy, and good judgment.

That's a combination no prompt can fully replace.

How are you using AI in your business? What's been the biggest surprise, either positive or negative?

You spent time and money building your website. It looks great. Your logo is polished, your services are clearly explained, and you’ve even shared it on social media. Then… nothing.A few visitors trickle in here and there, but the phone isn’t ringing and the contact forms aren’t filling up.If...
