Major !! Nevada's new Ma*****na reform bill expands the ability for people with prior felony convictions to enter the industry!

The Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board will be empowered to approve licenses to key stakeholders of a cannabis company who have such prior convictions if it “determines that doing so would not pose a threat to the public health or safety or negatively impact the cannabis industry in this State.”

In addition to broadening requirements, the state increases the legal amount of personal possession from 1 ounce to 2.5 ounces. While we advocate decriminalization as a whole, this is a step in the right direction.

Retailers will no longer need to apply for medical ma*****na licenses as retailers will automatically serve as a dual license.

A National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) committee focused on promoting health and wellness for student athletes is proposing to remove ma*****na from the organization’s banned substances list.

The committee said that it is recommending that cannabis be removed from the list of banned drugs in part because it does not consider ma*****na to be a performance-enhancing substance, an issue that was discussed at the Summit on Cannabinoids in College Athletics in December.

Additionally, it said that the reform would be consistent with a “harm reduction philosophy for cannabis, similar to the approaches taken with alcohol,” and it would allow the organization to focus on addressing problematic cannabis use.

The governor of Colorado has signed a bill into law that would allow online ma*****na sales.

Adults 21 and older will still need to physically pick up the ma*****na products from the retailer, but they can browse and electronically purchase cannabis online ahead of visiting the store.

“What the bill mainly aims to do, from my perspective, is reduce cash in the ma*****na space, which is something that is exceedingly important to do because when there is a tremendous amount of cash in any industry, it can lead to some troubling outcomes—specifically things like robbery,” Sen. Kevin Van Winkle (R) said on the floor last month. “It sets them up for tremendous amount of potential theft, and other things.”

Legalization is on its way to Minnesota!

Minnesota is poised to legalize recreational ma*****na as early as this week after legislative negotiators finalized the bill and readied it for last votes in the House and Senate.

While the bill would make ma*****na possession and limited home-growing legal for those 21 and older this summer, it could take a year or longer until the first retail dispensary opens. The bill creates a new state agency, the Office of Cannabis Management, to oversee licensing of recreational and medical ma*****na and hemp-derived products.

At-home possession
The conference committee decided that Minnesotans could possess no more than two pounds of consumable ma*****na flower in their private residence. Adults would be allowed to grow up to eight cannabis plants at home, but no more than four could be mature and flowering at a time.

Social equity
Seeking to help those harmed by the war on drugs, the final bill gives "social equity applicants" a better shot at getting a cannabis business license.

Expungement
The automatic expungement of misdemeanor ma*****na convictions would begin this summer. The bill establishes a committee to consider expungement of felony-level cannabis crimes.
