Godét My work consists of new designs, dresses, costumes, and any mending/alterations (including reproductions) you might have. I come from a line of seamstresses.

Godét is the triangle shaped piece added to skirts to make them fuller and can make a plain skirt spectacular. Godét was chosen as my business name for this reason. Let's make these little or big projects spectacular with my seamstresses knowledge and art degree background. I love to sew and have been sewing since I was 6 years old. My mom, grandmother and great grandmother all had a passion for s

ewing as well. I started watching my mother sew when I was about three. I would crawl in between her and the chair back and stand there and watch her for hours. She gave me my first sewing project when I was 6. I was hooked and have been growing and developing my knowledge base ever since. I went to Murray State University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design. So designing runs deep and I just can't seem to escape it. ;)

So give me a call/text/email the next time you need to have something mended or have a special project in mind.

This dress was so much fun to create! Her aunt gave me an old(er) kilt her father (little girls late grandfather) had gotten in Scotland years and years ago. I took some of the kilt apart and repieced the back from the extra from the front sides and added the wool top and reattached the leather buckles from the original kilt to the front waist. The back has six buttons down from the neck with the wool frayed edge all the way up the back. The part that is spectacular is the whole inside is lined and feels good to wear for this little girl. She showed her family's sheep at the local fair in this dress. Aunt said it will become an heirloom dress! LOVE!

This dress turned out beautifully! Love designing for my clients!

'Tis a busy time of the year. Between bride's maids dresses, prom dresses, Easter and sports uniforms I'm swamp for now. . . . And to be honest, I do all these types of edits in order to get, what I truly LOVE to do, which is specially designed from scratch dresses. Those are my joy.

Donated this little dress to JWCC luncheon fundraiser this year (Saturday April 22). It does not look like it at this point but this little thing gave the most design issue problems that any little dress could give. I find it interesting how some pieces go together so smoothly and everything works out as planned and then you have ones like this one where everything seems to fight me every step of the way.

Another dress on the books and I'm up at this hour because I still need to wind down. Talk about a night owl . . . I do enjoy the dark quiet house at this time of night. But it is time for me to try to shut this silly brain of mine down. . . . Not an easy task sometimes. ;)

Me and my two sister's at Easter time in KY. My mother made my dress (yellow) and my grandmother, Mumbo, did the smocking on my littlest sister's (in the middle) dress. I can't remember who made the rest of her dress, whether it was Mom or Mumbo. Sonya's (right) is in a hand-me-down dress from someone in the family. :)

I really do love to sew. I love the challenge of making that skirt, shirt, pants or dress look perfect on the person it's being made for. Sometimes, and it gets less and less, as I sew for more and more different body shapes (not just for myself anymore) and different fashion styles (other than what looks good on just myself) that I get stumped on something. But this last blouse (for a client) frustrated me to no end and yet in the end it looked spectacular. One reason is I stopped trying to MAKE it hang the way it was suppose to (in theory) by fighting with the fabric. I finally stepped back and let the fabric tell me how it wanted to hang. Sounds funny but it worked!!!!! A couple of strategic tucks where they wanted to fall and wallah it works. Sometimes there is just no way to make a fabric and style mesh the way someone (sometimes it's me) wants it to. So, I just love my clients that understand that this is the case ESPECIALLY with new designs. That shirt, skirt, dress may not always be exactly as envisioned (and may evolve throughout the project) but in the end I'm going to make it look spectacular on them and I can guarantee that!

ps. I gotta get better at snapping quick photos of what I'm talking about! :)

I give myself sewing challenges sometimes. My latest was to make a skirt completely reversible and have it look as good from both sides (with a zipper) as if it weren't reversible. I finally finished it and it looks good and it turns out it is also front back reversible too . . . bonus! I have a feeling it's going to be a favorite!
