One of the biggest lessons I've learned over the years is this:
The most expensive IT problems are rarely the ones you see coming.

It's usually the server that's been "working fine" for years... until it isn't.

The backup that everyone assumes is running... until someone needs to restore a file.

The employee who clicks on a convincing email... because it looked legitimate.

Or the software that hasn't been updated because "we'll get to it next month."

None of these issues start out looking like a crisis. But they can quickly turn into hours of downtime, unexpected costs, and a lot of unnecessary stress.

That's why I believe good IT isn't about constantly putting out fires. It's about finding the small issues before they become big ones.

A little maintenance today can prevent a much bigger problem tomorrow.

If you're a business owner, here's a question worth asking:
When was the last time someone took a proactive look at your IT environment instead of only fixing things after they broke?

Sometimes, the biggest savings come from the problems you never have to deal with in the first place.

Fun IT Fact: August 25, 1996

Back in 1996, the "browser wars" were in full swing.

Netscape teamed up with IBM, Oracle, Sony, Nintendo, Sega, NEC, and others to launch Navio Corp. with one big goal: challenge Microsoft's dominance in the software world.

At the time, Microsoft was bundling Internet Explorer with Windows, while Netscape's Navigator browser was the go-to choice for many internet users. The competition pushed both companies to innovate faster and forever changed how we access the web.

It's a great reminder that some of today's biggest tech advancements were born from healthy competition.

Question: Did you use Netscape Navigator back in the day, or were you an early Internet Explorer user? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Growing your business? Make sure your technology grows with it.

Growth is exciting.

More customers.

More employees.

More opportunities.

But growth can also expose the cracks in your technology.

The Wi-Fi that worked perfectly for 10 people suddenly struggles with 30. File storage fills up faster than expected. Security becomes more complicated. And systems that once handled the workload start slowing everyone down.

The best time to plan for growth is before your technology starts holding your business back.

A few things to consider as your business expands:

> Can your network handle more users and devices?

> Are your backups keeping up with your growing data?

> Is your cybersecurity strong enough for a larger team?

> Can new employees get up and running quickly?

Scalable technology isn't about buying the most expensive equipment. It's about building an IT foundation that can grow alongside your business without creating unnecessary headaches.

What's been the biggest technology challenge your business has faced as it's grown? We'd love to hear your experience.

Fun IT Fact: August 9, 1991

The first email sent from space happened over 30 years ago!

During the Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-43) mission, astronauts James Adamson and Shannon Lucid used a Mac Portable to send the first email from space back to Earth.

Their message began: "Hello, Earth! Greetings from the STS-43 Crew..."

It was sent to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, proving that even in orbit, staying connected was a priority.

Today, sending an email from almost anywhere is something we take for granted.

But in 1991, sending one from space was a huge milestone that showed just how far technology could reach.

It's amazing to think how much communication has evolved since then—from a single email sent aboard a space shuttle to instant video calls and cloud collaboration from virtually anywhere in the world.

Fun question: If you could send one email from space, who would you send it to?

Speaker Spotlight: Andrey Sherman | Cybersecurity

Who’s helping you keep your business safe?

Meet Andrey Sherman, co-founder of Xvand, who will be sharing practical cybersecurity essentials for small businesses at our August 26 Lunch & Learn.

Andrey co-founded Xvand in 1999 with Victor Grinshtein after years of working with IT firms that served Fortune 500 companies.

They saw a gap.

Small and midsize businesses needed the same strong IT and security practices as larger companies, but they didn't always have the budget or resources to build them in-house.

So they built Xvand around a simple idea: Make enterprise-grade IT and security accessible to small and midsize businesses.

Today, Andrey works with Houston business owners to help them spend less time dealing with IT headaches and more time doing what they actually want to do: growing their businesses.

At the August 26 event, Andrey will break down cybersecurity essentials for small businesses, including practical steps you can take to reduce risk and protect what you've worked so hard to build.

No scare tactics. No complicated tech talk.

Just practical cybersecurity advice from someone who's been helping businesses navigate IT and security for decades.

Every business has that one task nobody looks forward to.

Maybe it's entering the same data into multiple systems.

Maybe it's chasing approvals.

Maybe it's creating reports every week.

Or maybe it's sorting through hundreds of emails just to find what matters.

The good news is that many of these repetitive tasks can be automated.

Automation isn't about replacing people. It's about giving your team more time to focus on the work that actually grows the business.

Even saving 15 to 30 minutes a day for each employee can add up to hundreds of productive hours over the course of a year.

Technology should help your business run more efficiently, not create more work.

We're curious... If you could automate just one task in your business, what would it be? Let us know in the comments!

Think Wi-Fi stands for "Wireless Fidelity"?

You're not alone... But here's the surprise:

It doesn't actually stand for anything. Wi-Fi isn't an abbreviation.

While often interpreted as an abbreviation for "wireless fidelity," the official Wi-Fi Alliance trademark does not officially stand for anything and was simply created as a catchy, consumer-friendly name.

Today, it's something most of us rely on without giving it a second thought. From video calls and cloud apps to smart devices and online collaboration, a reliable Wi-Fi connection keeps businesses moving every day.

So here's a question for you: What's the first thing you check when the internet suddenly stops working?
