October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and we're kicking it off with the scam that never goes away: Phishing
Phishing attacks have gotten a lot sneakier. It's not just the obvious "Nigerian prince" emails anymore. Today they look like your bank, your shipping carrier, your boss, or even a friend whose account got hacked.
Here's what to watch for:
🚩 An email or text from someone you don't recognize asking you to click something or log in somewhere
🚩 A link that doesn't match the website it's pretending to be from. Hover over it before you click
🚩 Weird grammar, an urgent tone, or a "your account will be suspended" scare tactic
🚩 A message from someone you DO know that feels slightly... off. If their account was compromised, the scam came from them.
When in doubt, don't click. Go directly to the website by typing it in yourself. Call the person directly.
Staying safe online isn't just for big companies. Small businesses and individuals are targets too (often easier ones 😬).
