🎀 About a month ago, I was interviewed by journalist, Susan Yem, about my decision to change my last name as an adult child of divorce. πŸ“ Read here:
β€œRivello was concerned about how her dad would react, but didn't let that stand in the way of making the change. β€˜Other people’s opinions always affect you in some way,’ she comments. β€˜But I learned through my Al-Anon program to do what I need to do for myself.’”

Try it out! Type into AI chat: Give my personality a mascot using what you know about me and the uploaded photo for my appearance, invent a funny cartoon mascot that represents my personality. Feature a glamorous cartoon version of me posing beside the mascot as if we are an iconic duo. The mascot can be an animal, creature, object, or completely imaginary character. Give it one small accessory or detail that connects it to me. Add its name and one short tagline explaining its energy. Keep everything else minimal. White background, clean composition, polished colorful cartoon artwork. Do not ask me what the mascot should be. You decide.

πŸ₯³ It’s my 27th birthday today! πŸŽ‚πŸŽπŸŽ‰πŸ’–πŸ˜€ 26 was a busy year that taught me so much: I got to write my first novella as an adult πŸ“–, got to read a lotπŸ“š, took grad courses🍎, took a peer recovery specialist class, ✏️ transitioned into a new career, πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ’»; and of course- more travel, dog-loving, and self-improvement. πŸ’– Unfortunately, I have to go to work today because I just started this role a month ago, but it is Save a Life Day so at least I’m going in early and getting done early! πŸ’Ό Then, home with Rye Toast. 🐢 27’s going to be a great year!

Beautiful sunset I saw while working my Overdose Awareness Day event. πŸ’œπŸ•―οΈπŸŒ… After working 2 memorials for people lost to addiction yesterday and today, I am truly humbled and reminded of 2 things: addiction is a disease and we are all human doing the best we can with the broken tools we’ve been given. πŸ’” This is especially important because these past few years, I’ve been hurt by a lot of people: family, β€œfriends,” people I worked with, etc. But, especially lately with having a dad who still drinks and is emotionally abusive even after a liver transplant 2 years ago and also finding out my abusive cousin who has a drug problem is back in prison and facing four years. Even though I’m doing this work now and enjoying it, I do know that every story is different, there is nothing I could do about those in my life who struggle with addiction or mental health, and I still have to set boundaries to protect myself because unacceptable behavior is still unacceptable.
I am only in week three of this outreach coordinator job, and things are going very well. Yes, there is a lot of events, I work until 8 o’clock at night some nights, and I have an hour commute some days, but I do not leave work nearly as stressed or exhausted as when I worked as a teacher and substitute teacher. Because I like the work and care about the cause, it doesn’t even feel like work sometimes, just an extension of my life. After I graduated college, I knew I wanted to do something in communications or behavioral health, but settled on soul-sucking office jobs and teaching jobs because I was afraid. I was afraid of not being good enough, stretching myself, taking risks, and leaving what was familiar. But I realize now to not let fear stop you from following what is aligned with you. πŸ’–πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ»

Yes, I am a writer with a day job. πŸ’ΌπŸ˜‚ Today, I start a new job as an outreach coordinator for a non-profit peer-run recovery center. πŸ’– Change is scary, but sometimes, the decisions that are for our highest good and growth as a person have to scare the crap out of us. πŸŒ±πŸ‘πŸ»Don’t let fear keep you in unhappy, unhealthy jobs, relationships, or any type of situation. πŸ’–πŸ‘πŸ» For many years, I chose work that was not aligned because it seemed simple, convenient, and/or stable. Never settle because misalignment burns you out faster than anything else. πŸ‘πŸ»
