I've been doing contract work with Noom for almost three years now. Two books have been published in that time, both of which have web pages I built.

This weekend, a former project manager messaged me to say he was in a retail store, flipped thru the cookbook, The Noom Kitchen, and there's my name in the Acknowledgements. I had no idea.

Money is nice. Steady work is nice. But to be valued - that's priceless.

As a business owner, I bring my full self to the table -- the good and bad. And part of that bad is the very deep seeded people pleasing tendencies that women (especially those of us from the Deep South, of a certain generation) are programmed to have. This got me into a situation. And rather than beat myself up about it and feel like a failure, I'm talking about it here in an effort to turn it into a teachable moment, normalize making a wrong turn, and hold myself to a better standard of how I'm going to NOT put myself in this position again.

Just this weekend I had to message a local business for their address because I couldn't find it on their website. Another business had no hours on their website, but luckily I found those on their Google business profile. Make it easy for people to shop at your brick and mortar store. Ideally this information should live in the footer of the website so it appears on each page.

October is CyberSecurity Awareness Month.

How do you keep your Wordpress website secure?

• Never use “Admin” as a username (it makes the job so much easier for hackers).
• Be careful what you click - phishing emails are still a tactic.
• Use strong passwords and use password manager software to store them.
• Use a security plugin to warn and aid against attacks
