Roll ‘R Way Keeps the Tradition of Family Fun Rolling in Chambersburg
For generations, roller skating has brought families and friends together for an afternoon or evening of music, laughter and memories. At Roll R Way Chambersburg, that tradition continues with a nostalgic atmosphere with a modern spin designed to bring people of all ages together.
Located at 1993 Philadelphia Avenue in Chambersburg, on the site where Red Bridge once stood, Roll ‘R Way offers more than just a place to skate, it offers fun to all ages! Visitors can enjoy a few arcade games including air hockey, a game of pool, a snack bar, and of course the many games they play out in the rink including four corners and noodle tag, making the rink a destination for families looking for affordable entertainment.
Roll ‘R Way was established in 1969 by Louis “Uncle Lou” Quintin, who at one time owned 13 skating rinks all along the East Coast. The family-owned business continues to carry forward the legacy established by Quintin and Frank Quintin Sr.
“Roll R Way Family Skating Centers purchased, revamped and reopened this location in the summer of 2020,” said William “Will” Medina Jr., vice president of Roll R Way Family Skating Centers.
“It was important for us to continue the legacy that Uncle Lou and Frank Quintin Sr provided!” Will stated.
Although the building may be familiar to longtime residents who remember Red Bridge, the business has undergone significant changes since reopening under the Roll ‘R Way name.
“There may not be much that is still similar to Red Bridge,” Will said. “Both are skating rinks and some games may be similar, but we have changed a lot to align with our Roll ‘R Way structure.”
The goal, however, is to maintain a sense of nostalgia while creating an experience that appeals to today's families. Roll ‘R Way strives to offer something for everyone, from young children learning to skate to grandparents enjoying time with their families. The center also hosts a teen-oriented skate every Saturday night, providing teenagers with a place to spend time with friends in a safe and welcoming environment.
Affordable entertainment is another important part of the rink's offerings. Weekly specials include $2 admission on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and $5 admission on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m.
On Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., families can take advantage of the Family Fun Deal. Groups of six or fewer can skate for $13 when at least one adult skates with the immediate children in the group. According to Will, six admissions at the regular price would total $42, making the special an opportunity for families to enjoy time together at a reduced cost.
The rink also hosts birthday parties throughout the year, offering both public party packages and private facility rentals. The goal is to make each birthday celebration feel special for the guest of honor.
Beyond its regular schedule, Roll ‘R Way organizes Community Fun Days several times a year, offering free admission and skate rental as a way to thank the community for its continued support.
Mark your calendars for the next Community Fun Day that is scheduled for Nov. 5th from 6 to 8 p.m.
Family involvement remains a central part of the business. Frank Quintin Jr., a third-generation owner, brought his brother, Will, into the company six years ago to help open the Chambersburg location and later the Donora location. Will also serves as the company's vice president. At the Chambersburg rink, co-owner Erica Quintin and operations manager IAsia Correa help ensure the facility provides a fun, clean and safe environment for all visitors.
That family-oriented approach is part of what the business hopes will keep generations of customers coming through its doors. For the Roll ‘R Way team, seeing former customers return with their own children and grandchildren is especially meaningful.
The Chambersburg location is one of three Roll R Way skating centers currently open in Pennsylvania, alongside locations in York and Donora. The company has also been exploring the possibility of reopening another location in Clearfield Pa.
The Chambersburg center offers roller skating, arcade games, a Funshop, a snack bar and year-round birthday celebrations, giving visitors several ways to enjoy their time at the rink.
Ultimately, Roll ‘R Way hopes to preserve roller skating as an activity that can be shared across generations and welcomes visitors to experience the rink for themselves, whether they are returning to a familiar pastime or introducing a new generation to the fun of roller skating.
