Remembering Deputy Steven Choy

September 1st marks 10 years since Deputy Steven Choy’s End of Watch.

Ten years may pass, but the sacrifice of a law enforcement officer is never forgotten. Behind the badge is a person who was loved, a family who continues to carry their loss, and a law enforcement family that remembers.

I still remember the honor of being there to pay tribute to Deputy Choy when I was a deputy in Corrections. And I’ll always remember the interview he gave for his class video (when I was in the Photo Lab).

Deputy Choy left his profession and made a 180 to join law enforcement. He mentioned “this isn’t the movies” and how you have to prove yourself. Deputy Choy worked hard and stood out in his academy. He never gave up.

Today, we honor Deputy Choy’s service, remember his sacrifice, and hold his family and loved ones in our thoughts.

🖤💙

Managed to catch my trainer, Hope, and her lovely pony, Stiletto 🐴 And my old barn mate, Annabelle and her boy, Luxe! They did great! 🥇

Though I only caught the last hour, I hope to attend again in October. More pics coming soon!

🚨 Last night, officers with the Perry Township Police Department teamed up with several agencies across Franklin County for a coordinated traffic enforcement blitz.

Our shared goal: curbing dangerous behaviors like drag racing and excessive speeding that put everyone on the road at risk.

This is just a sneak peek of the work being done behind the scenes to keep our community safe. More details and photos to come soon! 👀

A very early photo of Columbus Zoo in the 1940's.

The city's first zoo (unaffiliated with the current zoo) was located in Old Beechwold Historic District in Clintonville but closed shortly after opening in 1905.

The Columbus Zoo that we know today (and pictured below) originally opened in 1927 and was called Riverside Park. In 1937 the name became Columbus Municipal Zoo which stuck until the current name Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. 🦁🐯🐻
