After over a month off, I finally got to return to class to continue work on my charcoal piece. (Yay! :) ) I think I will finish it in just one more lesson! (That's one of things I love about working with charcoal - the speed of drawing those dramatic darks is SO MUCH faster than building it up layer by layer with pencil. I've also found out that one of the big cons of working with charcoal is trying to preserve the piece between sessions - it's such a soft medium it smudges *very* easily :/ )

Trying something new - charcoal!
(Well. Almost new. There was that Nazgul I drew in charcoal over twelve years ago...it's pretty terrible. As in, it's stashed away with my collection of 'see how bad you were? Here's proof you've improved a little bit! ;) ) Hey - tell you what - if I get 10 likes, I'll share it with you in the comments so we can laugh at it together. We'll call it a tbt thing, and a shameless way to bribe likes ;) )
In the mean time, here is the 2-hour start on take two!

It has been almost a year since I've posted anything on here! I guess it's high time I changed that :) After several experimental pieces working with a new medium (water soluble graphite - so fun! I promise to show you some results soon), I thought I'd take a break and refresh what I've learned about working with colored pencils - which meant hours and hours of layering those colors to get the finished result, and refreshed my memory on why colored pencil, though lovely, is not my favorite medium to work with :)

A great art lesson, a fun surprise meet-up with mom to share Starbuck's happy hour (half-price-Frappuccino! :) ), and then it was off to print the Church conference flyers at Staples, who happened to be having a special on their printing service- making the flyers 1/3 the usual price! :)
