They represent the Eastern Shore of Maryland's watermen culture with beautiful hand-designed apparel, and original photography graphics.

This is Ginny from Fat Cat Wares.

She owns an e-commerce store selling glass coffee cups, candles, scented wax & sprays.

She started off on Shopify, and spent years confused and frustrated with the platform.

Most people have no idea this is actually a law.

Your website is legally supposed to be accessible to people with disabilities, the same way a physical store needs a ramp.

But nobody mentions that when you build a site.

You launch it, it looks good, you move on with your life.

Meanwhile there are law firms whose entire business is scanning for sites that arenā€™t compliant and mailing out demand letters.

And they go after small businesses on purpose, because we tend to just pay to make it go away.

I genuinely didnā€™t know any of this until I started building websites for a living.

What gets me is how quiet it all is.

Nobodyā€™s warning you.

And the things they actually check for are pretty basic stuff.

Can someone use your site without a mouse, can a screen reader read it, is the text readable for someone with low vision?

So if youā€™ve never heard of this, youā€™re not behind.

You just werenā€™t told.

If anyone ever tells you that if they make you a new website your business will skyrocket, they are lying.

We aren't here to sell you some false reality.

A website's purpose is to showcase your products/services to potential clients, build likability & trust with them, and to convert them into paying customers.

While a new website supports exponential growth by getting your business seen by more people, it isn't a 'viral mechanism' that will make you rich.

So if anyone ever tries selling you this idea, RUN! šŸ˜„āš”ļø
