Sometimes the biggest challenge in restoring a home isn’t the repair itself. It’s matching what’s been there for years.

When sections of this beautiful tongue-and-groove ceiling began coming loose, the homeowners needed more than a cosmetic fix.

The original installation had used undersized fasteners, and the boards hadn’t been secured at every rafter. Over time, sections began to fail.

Our team removed the affected ceiling boards and installed new tongue-and-groove material, taking care to secure it properly.

But we encountered another challenge.

The existing ceiling had never been stained or finished. Its warm, rich color was the result of years of natural aging.

And while we could carefully stain and finish the replacement boards to complement the original wood, there’s simply no way to perfectly duplicate what time has created.

The result is a ceiling with some visible variation between the old and new wood, but most importantly, the repair is complete and the homeowners are pleased with the outcome.

That’s part of working on existing homes. Every project brings its own challenges, and good craftsmanship means knowing how to address them while being honest about what can—and cannot—be achieved.

⚠️ WE’RE HIRING IN DOTHAN/WIREGRASS: CRAFTSMAN-IN-TRAINING

No professional construction experience required.

This is a longer post because details matter to us — in the homes we work in, the projects we build, the promises we make, and especially in the people we invite to join our team.

If you’re looking for more than just another job, keep reading.

We’re growing, and we’re looking for an ambitious, dependable person to join our team and develop into a skilled craftsman.

You should enjoy working with your hands, have an interest in tools and how things work, and genuinely want to build a career in the trades.

At Lyck’s Craftworks, our motto is “Where Care Meets Craftsmanship.”

Those aren’t just words on our shirts or trucks. They represent how we believe business should be done.

We treat customers with respect, take pride in our work, do things the right way, and build a team of people who genuinely care about what they do.

We’re building a company where talented people can develop their skills, earn a good living, take pride in their accomplishments, and enjoy a life outside of work.

🔨 HERE’S WHAT MAKES THIS OPPORTUNITY DIFFERENT.

You’ll work alongside experienced craftsmen, including a senior craftsman with decades of hands-on experience.

That’s a lifetime of knowledge, problem-solving, and craftsmanship — the kind of experience you simply can’t learn from watching a few videos.

And we believe that knowledge is worth passing on to the next generation.

You’ll also work alongside craftsmen who are continuing to develop their own skills, take on new responsibilities, and grow in their careers.

Our work is varied. One week we might be building an outdoor living space. The next, we could be remodeling a bathroom, installing custom finishes, or solving a challenging problem in someone’s home.

That means you’ll have opportunities to learn a wide range of skills.

We don’t want you to remain the new person forever.

Our vision is to develop people who grow from learning the basics into skilled craftsmen, eventually taking ownership of projects and potentially leading teams of their own.

We’re building that future right now, and we’d love to find someone who wants to build it with us.

👷 SO, WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Maybe you’ve never worked professionally in construction, but you’ve always enjoyed working with tools, building things, fixing things, or figuring out how something works.

Maybe you’ve helped a family member with projects, worked on your own car, built something in your garage, or discovered that there’s something satisfying about creating something with your own hands.

Maybe you’re fresh out of school and looking for an opportunity to learn a trade.

Maybe you’re ready to leave a job that doesn’t challenge you and pursue a career where you can see the results of your efforts.

Or maybe you already have some construction experience but want to be part of a company where quality, professionalism, and personal growth matter.

Your level of construction experience isn’t what matters most to us. Your character, work ethic, and willingness to learn are.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Shows up on time and can be counted on.

• Treats customers, coworkers, and their homes with respect.

• Pays attention to details and cares about doing things correctly.

• Is willing to ask questions, accept instruction, and learn.

• Takes initiative while understanding that asking questions is part of learning.

• Understands that safety and quality are never optional.

• Wants to become better tomorrow than they are today.

• Takes care of their appearance because they understand that they represent our company in customers’ homes.

You don’t have to know everything about construction.

But you do have to want to learn.

Becoming a true craftsman doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience, practice, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn from people who have spent years mastering their craft.

⭐ WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM US?

We’re serious about building a company where people want to work and build their careers.

This is a full-time position with a regular Monday–Friday schedule, with evenings and weekends generally available for your life outside of work.

We offer competitive pay based on experience and demonstrated ability. As your skills, capabilities, and responsibilities grow, we want your opportunities and compensation to grow with them.

We also offer:

• Company-provided work shirts

• Company-provided tools and equipment

• Paid holidays

• Paid time off

• Health insurance available after 90 days (employee-paid)

• Hands-on training and mentorship from experienced craftsmen

• Opportunities to take on greater responsibility as your skills develop

More importantly, you’ll be joining a team that believes people should be treated with respect, recognized for their contributions, and given opportunities to develop.

We’re not promising that every day will be easy.

Construction is hard work. Some days are hot, some projects are challenging, and sometimes things don’t go according to plan.

But there’s something incredibly rewarding about standing back at the end of a project and knowing you helped create something that will serve a family for years to come.

That’s the pride of craftsmanship.

And that’s what we’re building at Lyck’s Craftworks.

📩 STILL READING? GOOD. THAT TELLS US SOMETHING ALREADY.

If this opportunity sounds like something you’d like to be part of, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking to bring someone onto the team in the coming weeks.

A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

Rather than asking you to send a formal résumé, we’d like you to tell us two things:

1. Why do you believe you’d make a great addition to the Lyck’s Craftworks team?

2. Tell us about something you’ve worked hard to learn or accomplish. What did it take, and what did you learn from the experience?

A few honest sentences are plenty. You don’t need perfect spelling, polished writing, or a fancy résumé.

We’re hiring for character, dependability, effort, and the desire to learn — not for essay-writing ability.

Send your answers to us by Facebook private message or email them to [email protected].

❤️ AND ONE LAST THING…

Maybe you’re reading this and you’re perfectly happy where you are.

But perhaps you know someone who isn’t.

A son or daughter. A friend. A former coworker. Someone who’s dependable, respectful, hardworking, and just needs the right opportunity to discover what they’re capable of.

We’re asking you to help us find that person.

Share this post with them. Tag them in the comments or encourage them to reach out.

Because we’re not simply looking for another employee.

We’re looking for the next person who wants to help us build the future of Lyck’s Craftworks.

Sometimes the repair tells you what failed. 🔨

These tongue-and-groove ceiling boards had begun separating and coming loose. Once we carefully removed the failed section, we were able to see what was happening above it.

We found undersized fasteners and areas where the tongue-and-groove had not been fastened at each framing member. Over time, portions of the ceiling began to let go.

But before any of that came down, there was another part of the job that mattered to us.

Protecting the home.

Furniture was covered, floors and surrounding surfaces were protected, and the work area was prepared before demolition began. Repair work can be messy. That doesn’t mean the rest of someone’s home has to be.

Now that the failed material has been removed and we know what caused the problem, the team can begin putting it back together.

We’ll show you how this one turns out.

Sometimes a rebuild is an opportunity to create something better than what was there before. 🔨

This walkway had reached the point where replacing the deck boards wasn’t enough. The existing structure was deteriorated, so our craftsmen removed it and rebuilt the walkway from the framing up.

But we didn’t want to simply recreate what was there.

As the new decking approached the brick steps, Jerome and Cody incorporated a custom pattern that turned what could have been an ordinary transition into one of our favorite details of the project.

It’s functional. It’s built to last. And there’s just a little extra craftsmanship in a place where it would have been easier not to bother.

That’s the kind of work we want our name on.

Meet Rick 👋

If you’re thinking about a project with Lyck’s Craftworks, Rick will probably be one of the first faces you see.

He’s the one who sits down with our clients, listens to what they want to accomplish, talks through the possibilities, and helps turn an idea into a plan our team can bring to life.

As co-owner of Lyck’s Craftworks, Rick oversees estimating and operations, but his favorite part of the job is getting to know our clients and figuring out how we can make their homes work better for the way they actually live.

Whether it’s reimagining an outdoor space, working through the details of a remodel, or finding a creative solution to something that just isn’t working, Rick believes the best projects start by listening.

And once the plan is in place, he works closely with Jerome, Cody, Lynn and our trusted trade partners to make sure the details carry all the way through.

For Rick, Where Care Meets Craftsmanship isn’t just our tagline. It’s the kind of company we set out to build.

Meet Cody 👋

Cody is one of the craftsmen you’ll see bringing Lyck’s Craftworks projects to life.

He’s the kind of guy who shows up ready to work, jumps in wherever he’s needed, and takes pride in seeing a job come together the right way.

Since joining our team, Cody has proven himself to be dependable, hardworking, and always willing to take on the next challenge. And around here, that means a lot.

But what really makes Cody a good fit for Lyck’s is something that can’t be taught — he cares. About the work, about learning the craft, about the details, and about doing right by the people we’re working for.

We’re fortunate to have him on our team, and we think our clients are too.

Meet Jerome 👋

If you’ve had Lyck’s Craftworks working at your home, there’s a good chance you’ve met Jerome.

As our Senior Craftsman and Team Lead, Jerome is the guy helping turn the plans we make with our clients into the finished work they get to enjoy.

He brings years of hands-on experience to the job, but what we appreciate most is the care he puts into the details and the pride he takes in doing things the right way.

Whether he’s building a deck, working through a remodel, or tackling a custom project, Jerome approaches your home like it matters — because it does.

He’s a big part of the craftsmanship in Where Care Meets Craftsmanship.

We’re proud to have Jerome leading our team in the field. 🔨

✨ Project Complete ✨

What started as a set of failing steps has been transformed into a custom cedar entry and outdoor living feature that completely changes the look and feel of this backyard.

This project included:

✔ Custom cedar pergola
✔ New cedar deck and staircase
✔ Custom rail system
✔ Decorative post and trim details
✔ Full cedar construction throughout

The pergola now creates beautiful shade patterns throughout the day while maintaining an open, airy feel. The new deck, stairs, and railings provide a welcoming transition from the home to the outdoor space, turning what was once a simple set of steps into a true focal point of the property.

From the structural framing to the finish details, every piece was built to create a space that is both functional and built to last.

Thank you to our clients for trusting us with their project. We’re proud of the transformation and grateful for the opportunity to bring their vision to life.
