Whiteout Solutions has officially moved into a new, expanded headquarters in Derby, Vermont 🚀

Over the past few years, our growth has accelerated rapidly—driven by increasing demand for advanced LiDAR and geoAI solutions ( ). We reached a point where our St. Johnsbury space could no longer support the scale of what we’re building.

This move marks a shift in how we operate. We’re expanding beyond UAS-based workflows into large-scale acquisition—delivering bathymetric and topographic LiDAR across multiple platforms, from UAS to helicopter 🚁 and fixed-wing ✈️ systems enabling large-area coverage.

Our new facility—located across the first floor of the Poulin Grain building, a long-standing third-generation Vermont animal feed company—gives us the space to support that scale. It strengthens our acquisition infrastructure, accelerates development of geoSAP, and enables large-area data acquisition and delivery at a speed and scale not previously possible for our team. 🙌

St. Johnsbury was foundational to our early growth, and we’re grateful for that chapter. Derby represents the next phase—where we operate at greater scale, deliver more advanced data, and continue building the automated systems that define the future of geospatial intelligence 🌎

Great week in Tucson attending the MAPPS conference
🗣️So many informative speakers and conversations offered throughout the event. Really appreciate the work that the entire board is putting forth, but especially grateful for Rene Walmsley in her new position as President and the tireless efforts to make the event great for all who attended.
🤝 Great connecting with so many partners and colleagues in the geospatial industry
💃 Inspiring meeting with the women in geospatial. Thanks, Kate Hickey, for your leadership here.
🌵Great hikes in the foothills- Ventana Canyon trail was right behind the hotel.

We’re heading to MAPPS in Tucson, Arizona and looking forward to connecting with colleagues across the geospatial community. 🌵

If you’re attending, let’s meet up to talk LiDAR, coastal and riverine mapping, sensor fusion, geoSAP and what’s ahead in 2026. See you in Tucson!🏜️

🌊 Protecting NY’s Lake Erie Shoreline w\ Next-Gen LiDAR Fusion Acquisition🌊

Whiteout Solutions is proud to support the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) on a critical shoreline resilience project along Lake Erie between Buffalo, NY and Ripley, NY.

As erosion continues to reshape the Lake Erie shoreline, NYSDEC is updating its Coastal Erosion Hazard Area (CEHA) maps—last revised in 2014—to reflect more recent erosion events and current shoreline conditions. Accurate, high-resolution data makes it possible to identify incremental changes on the edges of the bluff. Collecting this data is essential for assuring that communities, infrastructure, and natural resources along this dynamic shoreline remain safe at odds with strong weather events. 🏝️

To support this effort, Whiteout Solutions collected and processed a topobathymetric LiDAR dataset covering ~65 linear miles of shoreline, capturing both land and underwater features in a single, integrated survey. 𝌣

Using a Bell 206 LongRanger Helo equipped with co-mounted and LiDAR , we efficiently mapped the full coastal system—from bluffs and beaches to the nearshore lakebed—at an unprecedented level of detail. 🚁

Project Highlights
~65 miles of Lake Erie shoreline
400 feet inland + 1,000 feet offshore coverage
25-30 points per square meter LiDAR density
Bathymetric data collected up to ~15 meters below the water surface

Deliverables
( )-classified (.LAS/.LAZ)
Digital Terrain & Surface Models ( / )
Water surface models 🌊
Imagery
Survey Control & Accuracy Reports
Processed & Delivery in 🧭

By combining topographic, bathymetric in a single acquisition, this project delivers a continuous, high-resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of one of New York’s most erosion-prone shorelines—supporting smarter planning, improved hazard mapping, and long-term coastal resilience.

We’re grateful to collaborate with our partner and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation on this important environmental protection effort and proud to help advance the science behind coastal decision-making.

Around this Thanksgiving holiday, it's a different breed of gobbler that is on the forefront of our minds - it's the Greater Prairie Chicken. The prairie is among some of the most endangered ecosystems in the North America. Less than 4% of the original tallgrass prairie survives today, and most of the best-preserved, unplowed prairie is found in the Flint Hills. Smaller prairie remnants and restorations exist elsewhere, but the Flint Hills remain the core stronghold for intact grassland ecosystems and species like the Greater Prairie-Chicken.

This 'tipping point species' has lost over 50% of it's population in the last 50 years and assuring that the habitat remains desirable to hashtag is a crucial assessment.

To better understand the state of affairs in the prairie, together with our customer , Whiteout Solutions is generating high density LiDAR point clouds and derived models of the prairie to deliver insights that prior to Analytics were hard to visualize and analyze. Analytics including LiDAR Scans of the habitat which will be used to look at habitation grass density and elevations. Whiteout Solutions is grateful to play a small role in the protection of this habitat for this amazing species.

We LiDAR scanned this year baselining the habitat and will return 2026 for deeper temporal understanding of nest sites and quality of the breeding grassland.
