Before the recent holiday someone said to me:
“Must be nice that you own your own business and you get to take time off whenever you want.”
Sure we can do that. But just because the business sign says closed, it doesn’t mean that the work or the pressure stops. Entrepreneurship has been romanticized in media as this way of freeing yourself from the shackles of corporate America whilst traveling the world and making loads of money. However it’s far from it. To put it simply, if we don’t work, we don’t make money. If we don’t make money, we can’t pay the bills, meet payroll, or pay our suppliers. And don’t get me started on business loans. These creditors do not forgive. So are we really that free? No. Yet we still do it for the love of our craft, or the ability to create something from nothing. So to anyone looking from the outside in: enjoy your paid time off. You’ve earned it. As for us? We’ll be right here, keeping the lights on, even when the sign says closed.
