I almost missed it on a dealer's Monthly KPI report from Dealer Insights!
A dealer showed me their marketing report last month. The top number looked great β 47,000 visitors, up slightly from the year before. They were ready to celebrate.
But I kept reading.
Page views? Down 10%.
Form submissions? Down 30%.
Phone calls? Down 50%.
Their traffic looked steady. Their leads were collapsing.
Here's what I've learned the hard way: vendors love showing you the prettiest number at the top of the funnel. The one that makes them look good. The numbers that actually matter β the ones tied to real customer action β are buried at the bottom.
That gap is where dealership budgets quietly leak. πΈ
The fix isn't more data. It's knowing which numbers to trust. And it starts with one simple shift: follow the money down the funnel.
I wrote a full guide on this β vanity metrics vs. real KPIs, and how to read your own data with confidence. Link in the comments. π

When was the last time you looked past the top of your marketing report?
