Run Speedtests Directly from Your Router! | Katalyst Spark 500a Tutorial

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnP5bU6PruQ
Tired of local Wi-Fi bottlenecks messing up your speed tests? In this video, I show you how to install the official Speedtest.net CLI directly onto the Katalyst Spark 500a router using the command line.

By running tests straight from the router, you get the raw, true 5G/LTE speeds hitting your device—completely bypassing any local network interference. This is the exact method I use to test setups like the 5Girl case out in the field.

🛠️ Commands Used in This Video
Here are the exact commands used in the video. You can copy and paste these directly into your router's terminal:

Step 1: Download and extract the Speedtest CLI binary:

wget https://install.speedtest.net/app/cli/ookl... -O - | tar -xz

Step 2: Make it executable and move it to your system path:

chmod +x speedtest && mv speedtest /usr/bin/

Step 3: Run it for the first time and automatically accept the license.
💡 Note: The very first time you type speedtest, the unit will prompt you to accept the license agreement. You can bypass this or script it using the flags below:

speedtest --accept-license --accept-gdpr

LOCATION: Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Struggling with dead zones at the beach? 🏖️ Most coastal towers point inland, leaving beachgoers with frustratingly slow speeds. During our latest field test, our 5Girl cellular case paired with the Katalyst Spark 500a completely changed the game. It is fully self contained from sand and operates all day without being plugged in!

We went from a sluggish hotel wifi 9Mbps to over 100+ Mbps with the Katalyst! Whether you're working remotely from the shore or just need a reliable connection where towers don't reach, this combo delivers the bandwidth you actually need.

5G cellular data routers have revolutionized the remote work landscape by delivering fiber-like speeds and ultra-low latency without the need for a physical wire. Unlike traditional Wi-Fi, these high-performance routers leverage advanced 5G spectrums to provide a stable, secure, and professional-grade connection even in remote or mobile environments. Whether you're in a van, a rural campground, or a mobile office, 5G hardware ensures you have the bandwidth necessary for high-definition video calls and massive data transfers from literally anywhere.

After 3 long years of waiting, we got patent approval for our cellular case designs. I feel so grown up.

03/27/2026

Having grown up in Florida, personal watercraft are an essential part of my life. From the very beginning, all the diginav cellular case designs have had to survive bouncing around in the hull of my Seadoo GTI. By survive I mean not go offline, not come loose inside the case, no rattling. ALL of our designs have passed these standards.

In the process of these tests I discovered I like doing business while boating. I recommend 3M Workmate headphones for noise reduction so you can hear while taking calls.

On Lake Lewisville in Dallas, speeds are averaging over 350mbps, way more than I can use on a three seater, but imagine the possibilities on a bigger vessel!
5Girl is self contained and waterproof providing 16+ hours of broadband on a single charge. They even float!

While other teams at Sebring26 struggle to read their emails with slow 20mbps starlink connections, we wallow in 300mbps+ speeds while moving from pit to track without dropping a "bit" of signal!

03/19/2026

Speed is everything at Sebring—especially for your data. 🏎️💨

While the cars are hitting 170+ mph on the track, most "mobile" internet users here are stuck in the slow lane.

We’re seeing a massive influx of Starlink dishes at the track this year. The irony? In such a high-density environment, they’re tripping over each other. While Starlink users are currently averaging a congested 20 Mbps, our 5G Data Routers are clocking in at a consistent 300+ Mbps.

And the "big race" hasn't even started yet. Once the full crowd arrives with their own portable satellite kits, that 20 Mbps is going to feel like a pit stop that never ends.

If your team or broadcast depends on "noticeably superior performance," 5G isn't just an alternative—it’s the winner's circle. 🏁
