The most printed rookie card in the hobby, graded Gem Mint 10.

1989 Upper Deck #1, Ken Griffey Jr. Centering 10, corners 10, edges 10, surface 10. The front centering measures 52/48 left to right and 51/49 top to bottom.

Everyone knows this card was overproduced, and people use that as a reason not to bother grading it. That gets it backwards. When millions of copies exist, condition is the only thing separating them. A Griffey with a soft corner is one of millions. A Griffey that survived thirty-seven years with sharp corners, clean edges and an untouched surface is a much smaller number.

DCM estimated value at this grade is $4,181. Estimated values are DCM's own market estimates at the assigned grade. They are not offers, appraisals or guarantees of sale price.

The inspection goes through the corners and edges at magnification, which is where this card usually gives itself away.

Centering 10. Corners 10. Edges 10. Surface 10.

Dark Magician, the Pharaoh's Servant, from Magnificent Mavens, graded Gem Mint 10. The centering measures 52/48 both ways on the front and 54/46 left to right on the back. Sharp corners, clean edges, and a surface with nothing on it.

Every card runs through three independent evaluations. Two of them scored this one a straight 10. The third held the four categories at 9 without recording a defect anywhere to support it, and the magnified pass did not find one either, so the 10 stood.

That disagreement is the system working. A single opinion with nothing checking it is how a 9 quietly becomes a 10.

DCM estimated value at this grade is $8,135. Estimated values are DCM's own market estimates at the assigned grade. They are not offers, appraisals or guarantees of sale price.

The reel walks the corners, edges, centering and surface at magnification. Judge it yourself.

Graded, listed and sold for $300.

This Monkey D. Luffy came back a DCM 9, Mint. Corners 10, edges 10, surface 10, and centering 9 at 48/52 left to right, which is nearly dead center.

What happened next is the part we want to show. InstaList builds the eBay listing straight from the grading data already on file, so the title, the condition and the photos all match what is printed on the label. No retyping the card details into eBay, no mismatch between what the slab says and what the listing claims.

Sold on September 7.

A grade is worth more when a buyer can check it. That is the whole idea.

Have you sold a graded card recently, and did the listing take longer than the grading?

A 1999 Base Set Charizard, graded and posted precisely because it is not a 10.

Centering 9. Corners 7. Edges 8. Surface 7. Final grade 7, Near Mint.

The centering is genuinely good, 54/46 left to right and 56/44 top to bottom, which beats what most Base Set Charizards manage given how that print run went. What set the ceiling was the corners and the surface, including clear whitening on the top-right corner of the back.

None of that is a surprise for a card that has been handled since 1999. It is what a real card looks like after twenty-seven years.

DCM estimated value at this grade is $13,682. Estimated values are DCM's own market estimates at the assigned grade. They are not offers, appraisals or guarantees of sale price.

The report behind the slab writes out the reason for every deduction, so you can see which category cost you and by how much. That matters more than the single number on the front.

If you own a Base Set Charizard, where do you think yours would land?

Centering 10. Corners 10. Edges 10. Surface 9. A 2000 Bowman Chrome Tom Brady rookie, held one subgrade short of Gem Mint.

The reason is worth explaining, because it is not about the card.

This one was photographed inside a rigid holder. A holder puts a layer of plastic between the camera and the surface, and that prevents a fully verified surface and edge inspection. When the evidence cannot confirm Gem Mint, the grade does not get the benefit of the doubt. It is held at 9. Re-shoot the card outside the holder and it can go back through for Gem Mint consideration.

That is a deliberate choice. A grade that is generous when the photos are unclear is a grade nobody can trust.

DCM estimated value at this grade is $7,535. Estimated values are DCM's own market estimates at the assigned grade. They are not offers, appraisals or guarantees of sale price.

Practical takeaway for anyone submitting: take the card out of the holder, and give it flat, even light.

How do you shoot your cards, in the holder or out?

Centering 10. Corners 10. Edges 10. Surface 10.

A Pikachu ex Special Illustration Rare, #149/128 from 30th Celebration, graded Gem Mint 10.

The surface subgrade is the one that matters on this card. It is a textured full-art foil, and texture is unforgiving. Handling marks that disappear under room lighting show up immediately once the card is photographed flat and straight on, which is why so many cards out of this set land on a 9 for surface while everything else scores clean.

This one did not. Sharp corners, clean edges, and nothing on the surface.

Worth saying plainly: this set is being opened right now. The population of genuinely clean copies is being set over the next few months, not years from now. If you pulled a hit, grading it before it spends a season in a binder page is the whole difference.

DCM estimated value at this grade is $1,616. Estimated values are DCM's own market estimates at the assigned grade. They are not offers, appraisals or guarantees of sale price.

We let the card design its own label.

Four examples in this album: a 2000 Neo Genesis Lugia, the Heritage label on its own, a 2024 Pikachu ex, and a 2023 Shohei Ohtani. Same system every time, four completely different bands, because the pattern is pulled from each card's own artwork rather than dropped on top of it.

Ivory field, gold rule, then card name, set, card number, year and serial. Everything you want to read at a glance and nothing you need to decode.

The Lugia is the one worth pausing on. Twenty-six years of binders, shelves and page flips, and it graded Near Mint 7. We are showing it precisely because it is not a 10. The grading report behind the slab breaks the card into centering, corners, edges and surface, front and back, and writes out the reason for every deduction, including the one that set the ceiling on this card.

Heritage is one of three label families alongside Modern and Traditional, and you can build a custom design instead. Your cards never leave your hands to get one.

Which of your cards would you want to see in a Heritage label first, a vintage holo or something you pulled this year?
