There are two kinds of search now, and your business needs to be ready for both. Google is still where most people start, so traditional SEO still matters. But a growing number of customers are asking AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude for recommendations instead. That is where GEO comes in, short for Generative Engine Optimization. It is how you make sure AI-powered search can find your business and pass it along when people ask. If you focus on only one, you are leaving the other half on the table. Why do the links go into the comments? Good question. The "view link in comments" practice exists because of how Instagram and Facebook handle links in captions. On Instagram, your links in captions are not clickable at all. They show up as plain text, so a reader would have to copy and paste the URL into a browser. Most people will not do that, which means the link gets ignored. Set up a "link in bio" solution instead.

On Facebook, links in captions are technically clickable, but the platform's algorithm tends to suppress reach on posts that send people off the platform. Posts with outbound links in the caption often get shown to fewer people than posts without them.

Putting the link in the first comment solves both problems. The post itself stays clean and gets full reach, and anyone interested can still tap through to the link with one click. It is a small workaround that has become standard practice for businesses posting on those two platforms.

LinkedIn and Google Business Profile do not have this issue, which is why links are fine directly in those captions.

Spring is the most underused email marketing season for small hotels and inns. Guests are planning summer right now. A simple email with a few local ideas and current availability often does more for July bookings than any social campaign. If you have not sent an email in a while, this is your sign. How long should a blog post be? Long enough to do the job! Most of our client blogs land between 800 and 1200 words. That is enough to inform, work in keywords naturally, and give readers something useful about the area or property. We always write for the reader first. Quality matters, and search engine and AI results matter too. The goal is to stop when you have said what needs saying. Natural, accurate, relatable, informative. That is the strategy.

A new survey from Talker Research shows travelers in 2026 are prioritizing:
• shorter getaways
• meaningful experiences
• value over luxury
• relaxation and restoration
• authentic, local stays

Guests are becoming less interested in “perfect Instagram travel” and more interested in how a trip actually makes them feel.

This is good news for independent lodging properties.

Travelers are looking for:
✔ Cozy and personal experiences
✔ Human connection
✔ Drive-to destinations
✔ Simple pleasures and slower travel
✔ Places that help them recharge

Now is the time for properties to lean into:
• weekend escape packages
• girls getaways and group retreats
• free and low-cost local experiences
• restorative travel messaging
• emotional storytelling instead of generic luxury language

The properties that win over the next few years may not be the biggest or fanciest; they’ll be the ones that feel genuine, welcoming, and memorable.

This trend aligns perfectly with what independent inns and boutique lodging already do best.

A few Memorial Day weekend notes for small inns and hotels. Last-minute bookers spike on the Tuesday and Wednesday before the holiday. Two-night minimums work well for couples-focused properties. Family-focused inns do better with flexible stays. Send your email a week before, not the day before. Hope your weekend fills up. View link in comments.
