La Noche de Rábanos es una tradición oaxaqueña que comenzó a finales del siglo XIX y que se realiza cada 23 de diciembre.

La historia de la noche de los Rábanos, una gran tradición oaxaqueña

Los antecedentes de la Noche de Rábanos los tenemos en el antiguo mercado de vigilia de la Navidad. En ese lugar se vendían las hortalizas, las hierbas de olor, las flores, las frutas y el pescado seco que se consumían en la comida o en la cena navideña.

En 1897 se convocó al primer certamen para estimular el progreso de la floricultura y horticultura. Para ello se tomaron como base los puestos del mercado de vigilia de la Navidad.

El gran éxito de este primer certamen aseguró la continuidad de los concursos. Así, se determinó que fuera el Zócalo central el sitio para realizarlos.
