Wire fraud is an epidemic that affects even the most knowledgeable real estate professionals. Chris and Nicole review one of the most important cases of real estate wire fraud that has set a precedent for future wire fraud losses. Bain v. Platinum Realty is a specific court settled case that left the industry in shock because it meant anyone involved in a real estate transaction—including real estate agents, title agents, underwriters and mortgage lenders— may be held liable when fraud occurs, regardless of the relationship between the parties.

Whether financial information is being exchanged between a client and lender or a client and title company, real estate agents should never put themselves in the middle of that financial communication.
