Over the past few months, Cleveland Heights residents shared their hopes, priorities, and concerns for Cumberland Pool through a survey, open houses, focus groups, and conversations across the community. The design team has used that input to develop a proposed design for the renovated pool, and we want you to be among the first to see it.

Join us for the final Cumberland Pool Community Open House on Wednesday, October 28, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cleveland Heights Community Center. This is a drop-in event, so come anytime that works for you and stay as long as you like. You can move through the stations at your own pace.

What you can do at the open house:

β€’ See what others said. Browse the community feedback and priorities we heard throughout the engagement process, and see how they shaped the design.

β€’ Review the proposed design. Talk with the project team and share feedback to help refine the details of the final design.

β€’ Help us activate the pool. Share your ideas for future events and programming that will bring the pool to life once it reopens.

β€’ Enjoy light refreshments while you participate.

Whether you’ve been involved since the start or this is your first time hearing about the project, your perspective matters. Families, longtime swimmers, neighbors, and anyone who cares about Cumberland Pool are welcome.

RSVP at cumberlandpool.eventbrite.com (link in our bio) so we can plan for refreshments and materials. RSVPs are appreciated but not required; walk-ins are welcome.

πŸŽ₯ Take a ride down Shaker Boulevard!

This video by Seventh Hill was shown at our second Community Open House at Shaker Square, offering a look at the corridor today.

The project will repave the roadway, add traffic calming speed tables, and replace broken sidewalks, add a separated bike lane, and more. It’s part of the City’s commitment to Vision Zero and Cleveland Moves, previous plans for safer walking, biking, and transit.

Thank you to everyone who came out, shared feedback, and helped shape the design. πŸ’™

Residents give up an evening to attend a public meeting. Our job at Seventh Hill is to design an experience worth that time.

Last Wednesday we hosted our second public open house for the Shaker Boulevard Project at Shaker Square, and I'm still thinking about how much it took, from so many people, to make two hours feel easy for everyone who walked through the door.

When we plan these events, we try to think like the people attending. What will they need when they arrive? What questions will they bring? What would make it worth their evening?

β˜” Rain in the forecast? We had tents, covered boards, and a plan. βœ”οΈ
🧭 Neighbors coming in without the backstory? We built in stations for that: renderings and street sections, a video drive of the corridor, and presentation slides with the key data. βœ”οΈ
πŸ—£οΈ Residents wanting to be heard by the people who actually make the decisions? City staff and project team members were at the table, ready to talk through trees, traffic calming, and how we engaged the community, with an aerial map of the full corridor to mark up and comment cards for anything else. βœ”οΈ

Behind the scenes, I built a 3D model of the venue so our team could coordinate the layout, assign stations, and think through how people would move through the space. It sounds like a small detail, but participant flow shapes whether someone leaves feeling informed and heard, or confused and rushed.

None of this works without a team that cares about the experience as much as the outcome. Thank you to the City of Cleveland - City Hall staff who showed up ready to listen, Council President Blaine Griffin and Councilwoman Deborah Gray for supporting the event, to my fellow team members (OHM Advisors, Michael Baker International) who staffed stations and fielded tough questions, and most of all to the residents who spent their evening with us and shared what they know about this street.

You're the experts on how Shaker Boulevard works day to day, and your input will shape what comes next. Thank you to everyone who made last Wednesday time well spent. 🚲🌳

Wednesday Wisdom: Speed Matters. A person walking hit by a car at 20 miles per hour has an 80% chance of surviving; at 40 miles per hour, that person has only a 10% chance of surviving. In addition, a driver traveling at 20 mph can stop in three car lengths; a driver traveling at 40 mph takes as much as nine car lengths to stop.

🚦 Help us make Shaker Boulevard safer!

Over 50% of vehicles on Shaker Blvd are traveling over the speed limit. The City of Cleveland is planning changes to Shaker Blvd between Woodhill Rd/Buckeye Rd and the Shaker Heights border to address safety concerns and improve the roadway for everyone who lives, works, shops, and goes to school there.

We want to hear from you! Take a few minutes to share your thoughts in our project survey:
