1. While it’s super important to make sure our children are being presented with accurate history so that they understand the past and their place in it, it’s equally as important that we model for them the type of people we want them to be in the future. 2. For those people who don’t want to celebrate Thanksgiving because of its racist and genocidal origins, it is possible to create new meaning and allow the day to morph in to what we SAY we’re celebrating . 3. However, you choose to spend the day, I wish you nothing but peace and happiness.

On today’s episode of this and that we are talking maps. Maps get introduced as early as kindergarten and it’s never been easier to expand your child’s worldview. Simply slide in a map of Africa when they’re learning directions, map scale, and map legends. As an added bonus you can teach from the Equal Earth map instead of the traditional Mercator map, as the Mercator map distorts the size of Africa to look smaller. Teach both simultaneously and it’ll be second nature for them. And if you’re looking for a resource to help you, check out our social studies program Meanwhile in Africa. www.meanwhileinafrica.com

In school in five years is going to look unrecognizable as parents. We need to take steps now to make sure that our children are not negatively impacted. Think of the worst McDonald’s you have ever been to. Sure there were hamburgers and french fries but the service was probably lousy and the food that you received was probably cold and the ice cream machine didn’t work. The only difference between a good McDonald’s experience and a poor McDonald’s experience is management. That’s what the department of education was and without solid management he has single-handedly turned your child School into a McDonald’s with cold fries and no🍦

❗Did you know?
Only 6% of elementary public school teachers are Black—even though 15% of elementary students are.
So, is it any surprise that our history isn’t being accurately taught in schools?
📣 Ain’t nobody there to teach it!
Parents… consider this your draft notice.
If you want your child to learn about our rich history—about Mansa Musa, the richest man who ever lived, or Queen Nzinga, the fierce warrior, leader, and diplomat—you’re going to have to tag in.
But don’t worry—I’ve made it simple.
📘 With over 25 years of experience as a teacher and principal, I created Meanwhile in Africa, a K–5 supplemental social studies program that teaches:

All in just 15 minutes a day.
It’s designed so anyone can use it—and every child can benefit from it.
