Reports in January from cybersecurity company McAfee claimed that organisations associated with the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics were targeted by a hacking "campaign." Perhaps unsurprisingly, that wasn't the last cyberattack aimed at the Winter Olympics.

The Pyeongchang Winter Olympics' internal servers crashed in the attack, as did public Wi-Fi. Officials confirmed the attack, but won't identify the perp.

A New Mexican city of roughly 45,000 people and an Indianan hospital operator have fallen victim to separate ransomware attacks this month. In a Jan. 17 press release, the city of Farmington, NM acknowledged via press release that municipal computers running its business operations were infected with SAMSAM ransomware in a Jan. 3 attack.

Almost 6 years after its initial release, SecureState has published version 1.0 (and shortly thereafter a couple of bug fixes) of its Open Source Smart Meter Pe*******on Testing Framework dubbed "Termineter".
