Movie
The Chatterer and Butterball Cenobites had dialogue in the original script. However, when their make-up made coherent speech impossible, their lines were given to the Female Cenobite and especially Pinhead, which helped to cement his reputation as the film’s trademark character.

When Clive Barker first showed the film to his mother, she cried tears of joy upon seeing her son’s name in the opening credits. He leaned over and whispered that that would be the happiest she would be for the next two hours.

Movie Trivia: The symbolism of the dandelions is significant. Dandelions reproduce asexually through a process called parthenogenesis, which means all dandelions are clones of an initial specimen. This is a clue to the nature of the men in the village, who are all played by Rory Kinnear.

The vicar quotes the poem “Leda and the Swan” to Harper, and refers to himself as “the swan”—the swan in the poem being a shape-shifted Zeus who took on the form to R a human woman, not unlike the mysterious entity’s apparent goal.

Rory Kinnear appears as all the men “born” from each other, except for Samuel, the boy with the mask (played by Zak Rothera-Oxley with his face digitally replaced by Kinnear’s) and James, Harper’s dead husband (Paapa Essiedu). Kinnear has stated in an interview that the men he played all represent an element of male behavior, “be it from the micro to the macro aggression.” He also asserted that he tried to avoid each character becoming an archetype; their behavior depended both on their own personal lives as well as Harper’s response to them.

Fun movie trivia! Prior to making the film, star Burt Lancaster, despite being quite athletic, had a fear of water and took lessons from Olympian and UCLA water polo coach, Bob Horn. Lancaster trained at the pool at his own house and one at UCLA.

Although the critical response at the time was mixed, critics were unanimous in their praise of Burt Lancaster’s physique, especially considering he was 52 at the time of filming.

Star Burt Lancaster worked out continuously throughout the production of the film to maintain a high level of fitness. Lancaster did numerous push-ups and sit-ups every morning before each shoot to stay lean and solid. He gained twenty pounds of muscle by doing weights, running, karate, and aerobics.

Fun movie trivia! The opening twelve seconds, involving vast schools of fish and undersea creatures, required 1,613 pages of conceptual sketches to develop.

This is the first animated feature film since Princess Mononoke (1997) to be created and painted on traditional animation cels.

The design of the ocean waves, during the typhoon caused by Ponyo, were inspired by the waves in the famous woodblock print The Wave Off Kanagawa by Japanese artist Hokusai.

Fun Movie Facts:
By his own admission, director Paul Schrader says that one day he got so stoned on set that he refused to come out of his trailer. A whole day’s filming was lost.

A re-recorded version of the film’s end-title song, “Cat People (Putting Out Fire)” by David Bowie was included in his 1983 album “Let’s Dance”, put out by EMI America. Originally, Bowie wanted to use the film version of the song, but MCA Records, who owned the rights to the soundtrack, refused to license it, as Giorgio Moroder was under contract to them at the time, and they were not about to let EMI use the version of a song which had been composed by one of their artists on Bowie’s new album.

The colors of orange and lime are omnipresent throughout the film and their use is based on a thematic color concept for this picture.

Movie facts:

This movie is a semi-documentary based on the real-life string of mysterious killings that terrorized the people of Texarkana, Texas, in 1946. The murder spree became known as the "Texarkana Moonlight Murders" and ultimately would claim five lives and injure many others. The only description of the killer ever obtained was that of a "hooded man." To this day, no one has been convicted and these murders remain unsolved.

The sack the killer wears on his head was the inspiration for the mask Jason Voorhees wears in Friday 13th: Part 2.

Fun Movie Facts:

When Olivier has tracked down Julie but is then ignored by her, there is a close-up of Julie allowing a sugar cube to soak up her coffee. Deeming that the sugar cube had to soak up the coffee in precisely 5 seconds, Krzysztof Kieslowski had his assistant director test multiple brands (which soaked with coffee anywhere from 3 to 11 seconds) to find one that took just the correct time.

At one point, we see Julie carrying a box which, as a close-up shows, has prominently written across it the word "blanco", Spanish for white; in the next shot we are looking at her from behind, and she pauses in the street as a man in blue passes her on her left and a woman in red passes her on her right. This is a subtle reference to the structure of the Three Colours trilogy - blue, white, red, in that order, mirroring the French flag. In another scene, children in red and white bathing suits run out and jump in the blue swimming pool.

Movie facts: Sidney Poitier insisted that the movie be filmed in the North because of an incident in which he and Harry Belafonte were almost killed by Ku Klux Klansmen during a visit to Mississippi. That's why Sparta, IL, was chosen for location filming. Nevertheless, the filmmakers and actors did venture briefly into Tennessee for the outdoor scenes at the cotton plantation, because there was no similar cotton plantation in Illinois that could be used. Poitier slept with a gun under his pillow during production in Tennessee. He did receive threats from local racist thugs, so the shoot was cut short and production returned to Illinois.

There were walkouts at this movie's premiere at a charity event. Peppy's make-up was patterned after John Wayne Gacy. Colin Quinn was asked to play Stenchy, but turned the role down because he didn't want to wear a dress.

Fun Movie Facts:

The opening sequence - in which a Sunday lunch is lovingly prepared - took over a week to film.

As of 2016, this is the only film made by director Ang Lee to be set in his native Taiwan.

Part of Lee's "Father Knows Best" trilogy[4] and similar to Lee's other works, this film deals with the transition from tradition to modernity.

Malcolm McDowell's eyes were anesthetized for the torture scenes so that he would film for periods of time without too much discomfort. Nevertheless his corneas got repeatedly scratched by the metal lid locks.

Stanley Kubrick's first cut (before hiring several assistant editors) ran almost four hours.

Korova Milk Bar is named after the Russian word for cow. Moloko (written on the wall) means milk. The bar's sculptures were based on the work of sculptor Allen Jones. Stanley Kubrick had the milk dispensers emptied, washed and refilled every hour, as the milk curdled under the studio lights.
