What a turnout for the inaugural Clarks Summit Goes Pink! 💗

There was something pretty incredible about looking back and seeing a whole hill full of pink coming through town.

Such a great morning supporting an important cause, surrounded by so many people from our community, and getting to do it with my favorite sidekick made it even better.

I have a feeling this is the start of a pretty great Clarks Summit tradition. 💕

What I love most about running a business is that you never really know where a project take you.

Sometimes it’s a boardroom.

Sometimes it’s a cozy local coffee shop.

Sometimes it’s directly beneath a 40-foot T-Rex.

A little full-circle moment at Hillside Park.

The Sparrow & Co. Strategy banner is officially up for the Lakeside Summer Concert Series, and I had a pretty proud little banner model with me last night: my daughter.

This concert series has a little more history for me than most people probably realize. I created some of the very first graphics for the series when it was getting started, and this year, I had the opportunity to design the Hillside Park blue heron shirts, which I was told have become the most popular shirts they’ve ever sold.

Now, seeing the name of my own business hanging at the park as a sponsor feels pretty special.

Sparrow & Co. may be a new name, but the experience behind it has been more than 15 years in the making. I started this business to help businesses and organizations create work that connects with people, gets noticed, and gives people something worth remembering.

So seeing “Your business is worth noticing.” hanging over my own logo tonight felt especially fitting.

I’m proud to support the Lakeside Summer Concert Series and something I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to in different ways over the years.

And getting to share moments like this with my daughter makes them even better.

Here’s to another summer of music at Hillside Park! 🎶

Thank you to Joey at Signworks in Chinchilla for a quick turnaround and doing a fantastic job with this banner, as always!

Fresh off the press and officially at Hooked on State Street!

One of my favorite parts of this job is the moment a project leaves the screen and starts doing what it was designed to do.

A menu isn't just a list of food, it's one of the first interactions customers have with a restaurant. It introduces the brand, guides decisions, and sets expectations before the first bite ever arrives.

Seeing that work come to life never gets old.

Every once in a while I'll visit a business that stays with me.

Not because the logo was incredible.

Not because the building was beautiful.

Sometimes it's a little coffee shop.

Sometimes it's a garden center.

Sometimes it's a family-owned business that's been there forever.

When I think back on those places, I usually can't remember one specific thing they did.

I remember how they felt.

Everything seemed intentional.

The sign outside matched the experience inside.

The printed menu felt like it belonged there.

The packaging looked like someone actually thought about it.

Nothing felt random.

I've realized over the years that intentionality is one of the hardest things to fake.

You can't buy it.

It isn't tied to budget.

It's the result of hundreds of small decisions that all point in the same direction.

Customers don't usually stop and admire those decisions.

They simply leave feeling like they were in capable hands.

I think that's one of the highest compliments a business can receive.

Not that it looked impressive, but that it felt trustworthy.

There are certain phrases I've never really liked.

"Marketing materials" is one of them.

It makes everything sound interchangeable.

Business cards.
Brochures.
Presentation folders.
Event banners.
Rack cards.
Postcards.

As if they're all just things you order when you need them.

I've never looked at them that way.

To me, they're introductions.

Sometimes they're the very first interaction someone has with your business.

Sometimes they're the only thing a potential customer takes home.

Sometimes they're still representing your business long after you've left the room.

That's a pretty important job for a piece of paper.

I've watched people spend months perfecting a product, then hand it to the world inside a brochure that looks like it was assembled in a hurry.

Not because they didn't care, but because the brochure felt like the easy part.

The reality is that customers don't separate your product from the way it's presented.

They experience both together.

That's true whether you're handing someone a business card, setting up at a community event, mailing a postcard, or leaving a presentation folder behind after a meeting.

Every printed piece quietly answers a question.

"How seriously do these people take what they do?"

I've always thought that was a much more interesting question than whether someone likes the design.

I've never owned a restaurant, but I imagine this happens there all the time.

Someone walks in and notices that one of the menu boards is slightly crooked.

The owner doesn't.

Not because they don't care, but because they've walked past it a thousand times.

The same thing happens in every business.

A faded banner that's been hanging in the window for years.

A brochure holder that's never quite full anymore.

An old logo on the side of the company truck.

A trade show display that's been packed, unpacked, and packed again so many times that no one notices the scratches.

None of those things are catastrophic.

That's what makes them interesting.

Businesses rarely lose credibility because of one big mistake.

More often, it's the accumulation of little things that quietly stop reflecting the quality of the business behind them.

I've found that business owners are usually the last people to notice.

Not because they're careless. Because they're busy.

When you're focused on serving customers, managing employees, answering emails, paying invoices, and trying to keep everything moving forward, your brain becomes incredibly efficient at filtering out what's familiar.

The things you see every day eventually disappear.

Customers don't have that advantage.

They're seeing everything with fresh eyes.

They don't know the sign is scheduled to be replaced next month.

They don't know you've been meaning to reorder business cards.

They don't know the old brochure is only there because someone grabbed the wrong box from storage.

They just experience your business exactly as it exists today.

That's one of the reasons I enjoy walking into businesses I've never been to before.

I'm always curious about the story they're telling before anyone says a word.

Sometimes it's a really good story and sometimes it's a story the business didn't realize it was telling.
