🎇 The new poster design for Hanabi(means fireworks in Japanese) Film Festival, a fourth annual Japanese film festival taking place this August at Clinton Street Theater in Portland, OR 🇺🇸

The inspiration of this poster artwork was drawn by titles and motifs from the screening films (such as an egg, eel and water) and I developed into a dark-ish, surrealism themed illustration that reminiscent of those classic Japanese summer horror films 💀

The film lineup is quite unique focusing mainly on indie / cult films from 60's to the latest, including North American premiere. The festival T-shirt featuring the illustration will be available at the cinema too! (swipe to see the mockup) Go check it out if you'll be around Portland this summer 🌞

Full design of 2025 lineup t-shirt design (back side is the adaptation of this year's lineup graphic) with the outcome with real kitty 🎸🐱 - the one of the most exciting and challenging project I've worked on this year.

The opportunity came in the last minute with very straightforward concept: 'Lolla meets Japanese culture'. Some fun ideas instantly came up in mind that made me exciting, but also felt nervous at the same time (big client in a short notice when you've busy), I said hell yes!!

Under the mix of pressure and excitement I managed letting my creativity flows without losing the direction, style and time management. I'm happy with the result and appreciate great feedbacks from customer who bought this shirt!

I’m also honored to work on a design featuring the names of 2 amazing Japanese acts - 💖💖💖

🇯🇵 During my homecoming I finally made it to Ghibli Museum! 🤩🤩🤩 (plus coinsidently found a Ghibli shop in the Skytree mall)

The legendary artist Hayao Miyazaki is one of my biggest creative influence. In my childfood I got fascinated his fantasy world, cute characters (and also powerful female characters💪), imagination and storytelling. They just came straight to my younger heart 💘 without realising what are they all about. Even as an adult now, they're always in my heart and keeps my inner child alive.

I was born in a year when Nausicaa film adaptation launched and grew up watching those major Ghibli films, like most of Japanese in my generation. (and later it surprises me how Ghibli is well known and populer in overseas too!) As I get older my favorite Ghibli film has changed, but my all time favorites are Raputa, Princes Mononoke, aaaand Porco Rosso 🐷 the coolest piggy in the entire universe.

✏️ T-shirt design for an album ‘Love, Tomorrow’ by indie rock/synth pop band from Newcastle, Australia 🇦🇺🎸⚡️ (swipe back to see the drafts)

The band's breezy sound is partly influenced by Japanese city pop style music from the ’70-80s, and I draw inspirations from illustration/graphic trends in that era - such as bold typography, manga style art, multiple colour prints, to bring a sense of nostalgia.

I created several concept drafts and we went with a concept that centres on , the band's frontman, where their soundscape swirls and expands around him, with lyrical motifs popping out from the flow.

✏️ Espresso coffee bag label redesign for : 3/3

🌝 Lucky Stars is a bold, rich and chocolatey blend, represented by the colour purple. Based on these characteristics, I considered nocturnal animals to represent the blend, such as cats, owls and possums.

🐰 The final design features a bilby, an Australian nocturnal animal, holding a planet in the night sky, surrounded by twinkling stars. I designed them in an emblem-like style with sweet typography to integrate with Fl**zy’s overall aesthetic, making them easily adaptable for other merchandise items, such as tote bags and mugs.

✏️ Espresso coffee bag label redesign for : 2/3

While the original labels featured landscapes, this time I incorporated animals and iconic motifs that captured each blend’s personality, aiming to build strong visual recognition.

🌞 Golden Hour espresso blend is a smooth, mellow blend with a warm, comforting touch, represented by the colour orange. Based on these characteristics, I explored animals that resonate with a sunset backdrop, such as flamingos and camels.

🐬 The final design features a flying whale against a sunset backdrop, visually expressing its mellow, dreamy flavour profile.

✏️ Coffee bag label design for : 1/3

Here is another fun project that I had the pleasure of working on, from Newcastle, Australia 🇦🇺

☕ Fl**zy Coffee is a family-run speciality coffee roaster located just steps away from . That's how they first came across my work and reached out to me to redesign the labels for their two signature espresso blends: Golden Hour and Lucky Stars.

the owner, Kmac, was seeking a fresh visual interpretation in a minimal style with bold colours, reflecting the fun and cool vibe that Fl**zy represents.

🇯🇵 Japanese culture meets Lollapalooza ⚡️
Check out this Lolla-infused lucky cat at Grant Park w/ 2025 lineup t-shirt 🐈 pre-order available now only through their website (link in bio)!

This project came to life with the influx of Japanese fans supporting the festival especially after the gifted artist joined the lineup. It’s all about celebrating the cultural mashup of international artists and Lollapalooza!

I’m beyond grateful for this rare oppotunity to collaborate with one of the biggest music festivals in the US 🙏 Huge thanks and much respect to the amazing team who discovered my work and gave me full creative freedom.

Lastly I dedicate this work to my younger self who was deeply into all sorts of alternative bands from the US/UK, and dreaming of one day being part of those festivals across the ocean... 🎸

✏️ T-shirt and Tea Towel Design for Jams Karaoke & Bar: 3/3

This second design of tea towel for 🐙 shows a group of salarymen cats with their friends (a dog and a frog), letting loose at karaoke on stage. This is an ode to drunken Japanese salarymen as well as Jams regulars going wild at karaoke on a Friday night. 🎤🍶🎉

The Japanese text reads "悔いはない" (no regrets).
