It has been a pleasure to have Chicago Jewish Day School (CJDS) as a client for more than two years already. When the former Director of Technology left to follow her heart and dreams prior to this past school year, I was asked to increase my support of the school. Liz Erlich (Director of Business Operations) and I quickly crafted a plan to start and survive the school year. We were as proactive as we knew to be, so that we could later react to the unknowns when they were sure to arise. I committed to have office hours twice a week on campus and we brought in an interim helper. In no time, with the help of others, technology was working better than ever and the school year hummed along.
We accomplished a lot in one academic year while serving the educational and operational needs of the school. Here are some of the highlights:
•Adopted the usage of a help desk ticketing system.
•Replaced primary fiber internet connection.
•Replaced the internet firewall. (Cisco ASA to Cisco Meraki).
•Created self service option to update ID badge in PaperCut print server. (Google Form & Apps Script).
•Identified and launched new visitor management system (Securly Visitor).
•Replace all Surface Pro PCs.
•Replace ~80% of Macs.
•Implemented usage of a Mobile Device Management system (MDM) for the Macs.
•Implement Google as IdP for Microsoft 365.
•Implementation of Google Credential Provider on PCs.
•Revised and expanded custom script to generate annual family directory (Google Apps Script).
•Identified and implemented a cost effective SIP based intercom, compatible with CUCM, to increase student safety.
•Expanded the wired network infrastructure and improved the wireless network of the auxiliary building.
•Technology planning for the upcoming building construction.
‘Maybe The Real Treasure Was the Friends We Made Along the Way’
Truly, what a great year with a great group of students, faculty, staff, administration, and community. None of this would be possible without the willingness and resourcefulness of wonderful people. I will forever be impressed by this small but mighty team and all the hats they each wear. Thank you to each and every one of you. -Kevin
