I’m trying something a little different... and definitely outside my usual painting practice!

On Friday, November 6, I’ll be one of the artists participating in The Artists’ Gala: Created Live, Captured Forever at the Chelmsford Center for the Arts.

For the gala, I’ll be working on a hand-painted silk scarf and a shawl, creating wearable art live during the evening.

I want to be very clear: I’m new to silk painting! This isn’t a medium I would claim to have mastered. But that is also part of what has made preparing for this event so much fun. I’ve been experimenting with dyes, gutta, color movement and the wonderfully unpredictable way silk responds, while bringing to it the things I do know well as a painter: color, composition, value, movement and design.

And I’ve developed a whole new respect for artists who work in this beautiful medium. Silk has its own personality, and it certainly keeps you humble!

I’m sharing a few of my practice pieces here as I prepare. At the gala, you’ll be able to watch the creative process unfold live, along with the work of a wonderful group of local artists. The finished wearable-art pieces will be auctioned during the evening.

What is art? :-)
As an artist, this really resonated with me. In a world increasingly filled with AI-generated imagery, I think Pope Leo’s reminder about preserving the “spark of the human” in art is especially meaningful.

John and I just visited Gallery Twist and had the chance to see all of the artwork in its full glory. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend a visit. The gallery has a unique “twist” that you’re sure to notice the moment you walk in and it makes the whole experience even more fun.

The Curious One has found a home! 🐿️

This little painting was such a joy to create! Loose, playful, and full of personality, just like its subject.

I’m especially happy that it sold through Gallery Twist in Lexington, where it was juried into the Journey exhibition.

If you love art, I really recommend a visit. The variety of work is truly impressive, and visiting the gallery is a feast for the eyes.

The show continues through October 11!

Just a quick last call for my upcoming six-week painting classes!
I still have a few spots available in both sessions, with especially good availability in the Monday class. It’s shaping up to be a nice small group, which means plenty of individual attention while still having the fun and energy of painting alongside others.

I’m very happy to have six paintings included in JOURNEY at Gallery Twist in Lexington. I had a glimpse of the work coming together when I dropped my paintings off, and it looks like it’s going to be a rich and interesting show with a wide variety of art.

More than 60 artists are represented, with over 200 original works on view.
